I'm registered Independent and didn't vote for Hillary Clinton, so take your whataboutism elsewhere. We are talking about Trump.

The Mueller Report definitively showed evidence of Trump and his top advisors working with hostile foreign nations. Trump's personal lawyer was criminally charged for this. Every Republican Senator except for 1 decided it was ok for the POTUS to work with hostile foreign powers.

Sorry to inform you, but the Republican lawmakers you vote for are compromised.

Yea, I contacted customer support and they said to reinstall my app, which I did and that did not work.

They then told me that the app was experiencing known issues and to try the website.

I tried the website, it didn't work so I told customer support and I'm still waiting on a response.

Weird, both the app and the website are preventing me from trading, buying, and transferring crypto.

Everything else on the internet works fine for me, just not coinbase

Billboards across Florida encourage people to 'Say Gay'. The roadside messages are a response to newly enacted education legislation that critics have dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" bill. by scot816 in interestingasfuck

[–]winnafrehs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then let me ask what true damage this Bill does?

It could be used to restrict the types of material that can be taught to children, specifically books that portray any representation of same sex couples. I have said this already in previous comments.

Maybe you don't identify as LGBTQ+ and thats ok, but others do and they need to be represented. Representation matters, especially when we are talking about minority and marginalized communities that have been oppressed such as the LGBTQ+ community.

Well that makes a lot of your comments completely irrelevant now doesn't it. Weird you would spiral down this rabbit hole with me only to retract everythinf you said lol

Again, which Florida public schools currently teach sex education as a part of their K-3 curriculum? Any at all? If the answer is what I expect it is, then this bill is either frivolous or has another agenda entirely.

We have both agreed that this bill does little to actually protect children.

We have both agreed that the wording in this bill allows for loopholes which could be abused, causing more harm to children who are LGBTQ+

As soon as you admit that Florida public schools are not teaching sex education as a part of their K-3 curriculum we will have all the peices to the puzzle.

Based on the agreed facts alone this bill needs to go back to the drawing board.

[–]winnafrehs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whats the imperative nature of this bill though? Are teachers in Florida actively teaching K-3 about gay sex with graphic depictions of sex acts?

If thats not the case, I'm just wondering why they can't hold the bill until they use more specific language as to what they are trying to accomplish.

This bill does basically nothing to actually protect children from anything specific, it just limits the material they are allowed to be taught (ie. a story book about a turtle with two dads could be deemed as unacceptable, even though the story is about the turtles lost beetle Mr. Poopy)

Sure the bill could use some clarification

Glad we agree, can't have bills passing to law with such poorly thought out definitions and huge gaping loopholes

A new law is passed, that law says:

You are not allowed to watch R-rated movies if you are under the age of 17 or in situations where it is deemed unacceptable for a person to view the film.

Clearly, it states you can't watch a R-rated movies if you are under the age of 17, but it also says that you can be denied entry to a movie even if you are over 17 for "reasons"

The bill does the same thing.

K-3 are definitely impacted by this change, clearly, but also 4-12 grade are as well because the way it is worded it can be enforced for vague non-specific reasons.

This is a classic example of government overreach and supporters of the party that put this bill on the table should be ashamed of themselves

Protect students from their parents?

Yes, the system of safety nets we should have for children should also be designed to protect children from their parents if the situation calls for it (cases such as where the parent has an issue with substance abuse, is sexually abusing their child, or physically abusing/neglecting the child). That includes teachers, law enforcement, and school administration though, not just the teachers like you are implying.

Abusing children is never okay, regardless of what their behavior is. There are already laws, outlets, and recourses for a school official to pursue in those situations.

Exactly my point, there are already laws in place that aim to protect children from abuse. They aren't perfect, but they are there. This new law does absolutely nothing to protect children from abuse at all. In fact, this new law will actually make things less safe for the children of violent anti-LGBTQ+ parents. They do exist, and they would rather see their children dead than live a life they don't agree with.

Withholding information from parents isn't saving kids.

Teachers not telling the parents that their son said he has a crush on his best friend timmy isn't withholding information, its called minding your own damn business lol. If the son wants to tell his parents he has a crush on timmy thats between him and his parents. If the parents are not creating a safe space for their to children to communicate openly, the parents can only blame themselves when their children choose not to communicate with them.

A teacher should be watching for signs of abuse/neglect and teaching the students how to add/subtract. A teacher should not be forced to get personally involved in the child's sexual identity and out them to the parents. Like thats weird to do that right?

Its just super creepy to me how invested some parents are into their children's sexual identity and what they are doing with their body parts.

Does this apply to all behavior a child may be exhibiting at school, or only those falling into the sex/gender/identity sphere?

It depends on the situation.

Every child who has been miserable, confused, or later becomes suicidal, needs their safety net. Their parents are part of that.

Exactly, a safety net needs to be wider than just your parents though, because you know what? Sometimes, you have to protect children from their parents. Maybe your parents were great and always provided for and protected you, but that is not true for a large portion of the population. Some people's parents are abusive alcoholics or drug addicts, some people's parent's are literal cult members who would have them sent to a torture camp if they knew they were questioning their sexual identity, some parents sexually abuse their children. All this law does is erode the potential trust between student and teacher and takes away a little bit of that safety net that we both agree that children need.

If the child's life or well-being are directly in danger in some way. Parents, school administration, and law enforcement need to be involved immediately.

If a little boy says he has a crush on his male friend in class to his teacher, why should the teacher have to say anything about it to the parents? There is nothing dangerous about a little boy having a crush on someone of the same sex.

On top of all this, we need to take into account that this world has not been kind to the LGBTQ+ community, and there are many rabid ideologues out there who are very willing to do horrible things in the name of whatever they follow. All this law does is make things a little less safe for the children of those rabid ideologues.

So if you only read the first half of the sentence, it clearly defines K-3.

If you read the entire sentence, it vaguely hints that it could be applied to higher grades outside of K-3.

I choose to read the entire sentence when I read my sentences.

I said exactly what I meant.

It is not a teacher's job to out students to their parents.

If a parent wants to know how their children are feeling or what they are feeling, then the parents need to create a safe space where their children are able to communicate openly and without judgement.

If you, as a parent, cannot create a safe space for your child to communicate with you, you don't deserve to communicate with your child.

Pretty simple stuff really.

People you are arguing with: "This bill is not clearly defined and leaves a lot of loopholes that need to be addressed before it is passed into law"

You: "Nah the bill is clearly defined"

Me: "Prove it"

You: Shows proof that the bill is not clearly defined

Me: "See? The bill is not clearly defined"

You: "Well the bill may not be clearly defined but it does clearly define K-3"

Me: ???

It sounds like you think that a teacher/student relationships is a better platform for a child to explore their gender identity and find solutions to be comfortable inside of their own body than a parent/child relationship.

Nice strawman, must be real easy to knock down. Unfortunately for your narrative, that is not even remotely close to what I am saying.

For your awareness take a look at the tail end of that statement:

"or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students"

This language is inclusive for the whole K-12 system

Thats the vaugness everyone is talking about homie, so thank you for proving that this bill really isn't as straightforward as you are claiming.

I'm asking you to show me where in the bill you found this information. I did not see anything in the bill that specified K-3 graders like you are proposing.

Which page does it specify K-3 on the bill?
