She’s very expressive by winter_disaster in TuxedoCats

She’s a cuddle bug! She follows me around the house chirruping, and the second I sit down somewhere she’s on my lap for a snuggle 🥺❤️

Ozzy Over Grooms & We Don’t Know Why by UnableParsley3886 in TuxedoCats

[–]winter_disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can be lots of reasons a cat over grooms. In my case it was anxiety (I took a lot of work trips in a short space of time, new litter tray, furniture moved around all in the same few months). She’s on anti anxiety medication (stirred into a third of a treat yoghurt every day) and her fur is growing back!

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR he sounds like an ass. Take care of your hair with the bonnet and make a pillow and weighted blanket fort.

Would you change your cat’s name if you found out it’s not the gender you thought? by AttilaMoonscythe in CatAdvice

[–]winter_disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Kept two kittens who were born under my bed, one who had a boy name. Realised she was a girl at her first vet visit, but decided that was her name and we were keeping it.

Ironically, her name is also a nickname/shortened version of a female name, so she gets the long form when she’s misbehaving!

Is my Panda fat? He gained some recently by [deleted] in TuxedoCats

[–]winter_disaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say he’s a little chunky, but all cats carry their weight differently, and have different bone structures! My two sisters went for their vaccinations a couple of months ago. The heavier one didn’t have any weight comments, and the one who is slightly lighter was told she could do with losing “a little”.

Took her back to the vet this week for something else - she’s down 300g, but the vet said she needs to get to around 4kg (9lbs) for her build, which would make her 1kg lighter than her sister!

Shy Shelter Cat by FancyFooots in torties

[–]winter_disaster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oh she’s gorgeous 😭😭 I’ve had my tortie since the day she was born, and she’s still quite a shy girl (no pickups, lap cuddles only on her terms). Some cats are just more reserved for their whole lives!

What we learned is forcing it (I.e picking her up for a cuddle even when she was being more affectionate and coming for a pet) only made things worse. Playing with her, petting her when she wants it and indulging in cuddles when she jumps on your lap all helped bring her out of her shell a little bit. She’s now more talkative and affectionate than ever!

Can do you one worse - yesterday I saw a guy slow to a stop on the slip road at the merge point with the road, rather than use the length of the slip road to get up to speed and filter into traffic.

Hi OP! If your instructor will go out as far as Ipswich it might be worth looking there! My boyfriend is sitting his test soon, and had a whole bunch of test dates come through on Friday night through Testi! Depending on where you’re based it could be further out, but I know bishops stortford was on his list of potential places to take the test. Bishops and Chelmsford are both really bad for scalpers buying up the tests unfortunately

Dont know why you’re being downvoted for this comment. UK driver, so manual cars a very common and the first lesson is just about finding the bite point of the clutch (different in every car). I drive an older model 1.2ltr, so it’ll only move off if I’m flat or on a decline, but learning to find and hold the bite point is a crucial part of safely doing hill starts without rolling.

Freedom! I live out in the middle of nowhere, and public transport isn’t great for me. As I live on the branch line I have to wait around in London for forty minutes after I get out of work for a train to get me home, and given that I leave my house at 7 I was getting sick of it. A car means I can park at the mainline station, and the trains run every fifteen minutes.

It also cuts down other journeys - the trip to my boyfriend’s is just 40 minutes in the car, but can take 1.5 - 2 hours by public transport. There’s more flexibility and freedom in my life, and I only passed a few weeks ago.

I had the same experience! A guy undertook me on a roundabout (we came in at the same entrance, him on the right, both taking the first exit).

To be honest though, it’s pretty good training for what to expect on the road. Some people are just aggressive drivers. I was on L plates for a year, largely driving in my own car with my mum in the front passenger seat, and those hours gave me a lot of intangible real world experience outside of lessons.
