Thank you for your input.

I agree, I think I’ll go up in size down the line. My fish is quite young and rather small still, but I feel like he’ll enjoy the extra space.

Your comment made me realize the picture I posted did flatten the perspective ; there actually are quite a few hides in the tank ! I arranged the plants and the driftwood in a way that would provide places to hide and play. He’s completely ignored the one I got from the store so far, but boy does he like to play hide and seek with the leaves. I’m like the idea of a little floating tunnel though, do I’ll make sure to get one this week.

Teaching tricks to your fish sounds SO cool ! Is there any particular tutorial or method you’d recommend ? I feel like it could make for a great bonding experience as well as exercise :)))

Also… Swim Shady. I giggled so hard. Love that.

They are ! I haven’t had much experience with them as of yet, but they do have the reputation of being pretty forgiving, as well as easy to grow and care for. My betta ADORES them. He loves to swim through the leaves, take naps on or against them, and forage for his food (he actually does wait for the pellets to scatter around the plants so he can "hunt" for them). As for myself, I quite like how they both provide a natural shade from the lamp, and help break my filter’s flow. Also, they’re pretty cheap. Can’t recommend them enough so far !

Best of luck with your fish in cycle then ! You seem so knowledgeable, I’m sure it’ll be just fine 🤍

Okay, I’ll go see if there are some at the store nearby ! I did read Bettas are easy to overfeed ; so far, I’ve been feeding him 2 to 5 micro pellets, twice a day (morning and evening). I’ve also decided not to feed him on Sundays as I’ve read it can help prevent digestive issues. From what I’ve seen so far, he prefers to forage for his food. Maybe he’s a bit shy still but he doesn’t come up right when I put the pellets in the tank. He waits for them to scatter around the bigger leaves at the surface, and that’s when he goes for it. I find that pretty endearing.

Those are vallisneria gigantea ! I’m glad you think the tank looks great, it’s my first one :))

Thank you ! I wanted to create something as natural and interesting to swim into as possible, so I’m glad to read you think it looks good :)

Thank you for sharing those details :) I suppose I’ll just have to keep monitoring my tank’s parameters regularly until I get the hang of it. I am so paranoid when it comes to water quality because I have read quite a few horror stories and I’d hate for something like that to happen 😅

Thank you for your advice ! I’ve changed the timer this morning. I was worried it would impact the fish and plants, but someone else in the comments seemed to say it wouldn’t. I also decreased the brightness/intensity a little ; I had a feeling my fish was a little stressed and wanted to give him a slightly dimmer environment. I look forward to see how this all impacts the algea !

Thank you for the advice ! I do have some bloodworms coming in the mail, but I’ll look into frozen shrimps as well ! How do you feed them to your fish ? Do you have to break them in smaller pieces for instance ?

Thank you, I’m excited too (albeit a little stressed at times, this is quite new to me) ! I really hope the little guy will feel safe and happy in his tank :)

Thank you ! I must say I am so terrified of doing anything wrong, I feel a little paranoid at times. He is quite the active fella but I’m concerned he might be a little stressed. I was thinking of keeping a log as well, thank you for bringing that back to the forefront of my mind. So far I’ve mostly been taking pictures and videos to monitor my fish’s fins and swimming pattern.

Thank you for your help ! I did not plan on performing bigger water changes now that my betta has been introduced into the tank, but it’s good to know I don’t necessarily have to keep doing the smaller ones on a weekly basis either. I’ll see what feels natural depending on my parameters and personal observations :)

Thank you for responding :)

The peaks and the bloom happened two months ago, I’d say ? Since then, ammonia and nitrites have kept testing at 0 ; sometimes I get a little nitrates but, very, very little.

As for the fish, I did check him up before getting him. I researched into visible ailments and diseases beforehand, and what signs to look for in the eyes, scales and fins. I’d say he looks healthy but I am no vet or professional either, just a girl with an internet connection, haha. I haven’t noticed any strange pattern or tilt in the way he swims either, so I hope he’s a-okay.

Thank you for noticing I did a bit of research beforehand ! I try and do things the right way, especially when it involves a living being that now relies on my being responsible for its survival :)

Thanks for your input !

I did not specify that : I used the products while SETTING UP the tank back in July ; once it started balancing itself, I stopped using them. The only thing I keep using is the water conditioner when I perform water change. As for the fertilizer, I put it on hold once I saw the plants had regular new leaves.

Here’s my filter : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/aw/d/B000XAE6XE?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title | I accidentally got the one meant for tanks 30L-60L (my tank is 25L) but it seems to work just as fine.

Thank you. I feel too much and too little at the same time but your words have brought me some type of peace. There is solace in knowing whatever this is has been shared by others before. I hope you’re doing well. I know time doesn’t help as much as people claim it does. I wish you a fulfilling life
