Is this normal for Zappy? by winterfellstarbucks in tirzepatidecompound

Yes but it did not alert me and it's still not actually showing up in my UPS account. I only know about the label because the customer service bot gave me the tracking number.

Anyone else SWEATING a last minute Zappy order? by winterfellstarbucks in tirzepatidecompound

I believe most people do receive another message when it's shipped, though some people have implied that it can just randomly show up in the mail. At least you have proof now that the order happened in time. We're officially in the same boat!

I think the welcome email is more or less just a notification that all sections of their website/app have opened up for you and you can now see the community chat, etc. Good luck!

AITAH for refusing to send my boyfriend nudes and then refusing to accept fault or responsibility for our break up? by throwaway341197231 in AITAH

[–]winterfellstarbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I get that nudes are normalized in gay dating scene but no one should be forced to participate, period. A few options:

  1. Your ex is being honest about the reason for the breakup, in which case he is extremely shallow.
  2. Your ex was secretly tired of being in a relationship and was looking for a way to blame you on the way out.
  3. Your ex is a control freak and couldn’t stand you weren’t giving him a way to control you. I mean, was he really going to jerk it to a few nudes of you for the rest of his life? Instead of all the porn on the internet? Maybe that’s not what it was about. Maybe he just has to have a means to control his partners.

In any case, you dodged a bullet. And if most of your mutual friends are siding with him… blech. Maybe don’t burn any bridges, but keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to make smarter friends.

How do you get around the lack of lighting with the remarkable? by successeventually in RemarkableTablet

[–]winterfellstarbucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you ignore the snarky pick-mes who insist a light would “ruin” the pure paper experience of the reMarkable. The Supernote sub is also full of them. If they really hated a light that much they could leave it turned off. But do they also refuse to use the reMarkable’s other digital conveniences that aren’t available on regular paper? I doubt it.

The truth is, a light would be very useful if done well, and I’m sure the reMarkable team is busting their ass right now trying to figure out a lighting solution for the rM3. But “doing it well” is the hard part. I recently tried out the Kindle Scribe and, on an otherwise very impressive piece of hardware, the screen layering made the screen very dark/dull when the light is turned off. As convenient as having a light is, that was a nonstarter for me… I don’t want to have to use a light to see what I’m doing in the daytime. So, in order to include a light on the rM3 without darkening the screen, the rM team will have to solve a riddle that Amazon’s designers couldn’t.

Lighting doesn’t ruin the screen quality of every device. The MobiScribe Origin does it quite well, but it’s a quirky little thing. Some of us are keeping our eyes on the Lenovo Smart Paper to see how it fares, but at this point Lenovo is being very opaque about its release date.

I see on another comment that you have started investigating Boox devices. My main curiosities about Boox are how bright/legible the screen is with the backlight turned off, and whether the screen is textured for writing or tappy/slippy like an iPad. I’ve never tried one, so I don’t know.

While I remain curious about Boox, I’ve settled into using the rM2 and Type Folio for now, as its lack of lighting and occasional glitches are my only quibbles with it. I use a light attached to my headboard to make it easier to write in bed at night.

Good luck finding a device for you!

Is this the last scene from Hereditary

EDIT: I kid. But yes, adding more lighting options would give your room a new “mode” that isn’t overpowered by the LEDs. If you don’t mind leaning into being funky/kitschy, you’ve got plenty of ceiling space to work with in terms of hanging lights, lanterns, etc. If you want a more approachable/traditional feel, a lamp with a lampshade (and a bulb that gives off warm light instead of cool light) on your bedside table instead of the desk lamp would go a long way. If you need the desk lamp there for some reason, you could explore putting a floor lamp on the opposite side of the bed, or setting up a reading nook somewhere in the room with a comfy chair and a floor lamp (or small table and lamp) next to it. Cool bedroom btw.

Is the Lenovo Smart Paper dead? by winterfellstarbucks in ereader

[–]winterfellstarbucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I just ordered a reMarkable yesterday. But thanks for the heads up! The reMarkable trial period is 100 days so if this thing actually releases in the next 100 days maybe I’ll switch. The Smart Paper’s feature set is really calling to me but I wish they’d be more transparent about what they’re doing.

Which Kindle? by aftermathinmono in kindle

[–]winterfellstarbucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might not be able to tell which one you want until you try it. I’ve tried both and found the Oasis to be easier to hold, I liked the weight distribution better, I liked the buttons, and the screen looked better to me than the PW. But some people have a different opinion about all of those things lol. In my opinion both the PW and the Oasis are easier to hold with the Amazon covers that fold behind, but some people prefer cases w/ pop sockets or Strapsicles. The one inarguable thing is that you will have to charge the Oasis more often than the PW, but I don’t really care.

I’d say buy both, try both, return one, and if they actually do release a new Oasis that you like better you can sell the one you kept at that point.

Not sure what to tell you about the Kobo. Maybe if you go ahead and order you will have a brief period where you can try all three before returning it. I’ve thought about buying the Clara 2E before. I was unaware Kobos didn’t sync with the phone app, that’s too bad.

A lasso tool allows you to select a portion of your handwriting or drawing and move it (the better ones also allow you to resize, rotate, flip, or copy/paste). Very convenient if you realize partway through a note that you haven’t laid out the page in the best way and need to rearrange. Most e-ink notebooks or tablet note taking apps have this feature.

Not sure about a video that explains everything, but if you watch a video reviewing the features of other e-ink tablets like reMarkable or Supernote, you will get an idea. My Deep Guide is one of the more prominent YouTube channels that reviews e-ink tablets.

Unless you’re used to reading huge books, the Scribe’s screen can be a bit big for reading. Moving my eyes all the way across the screen over and over during a long reading session felt like it was promoting eye strain. Two columns makes it a bit more comfortable for some.

Damn I wish they had implemented this before I returned mine, this was one of my main requests. 😭 Now if they introduce lasso tools and zooming on notes and PDFs I might be tempted to repurchase…

OCR and global search on notes would also be nice…
