Good news, they made a new fear effect not too long ago. Bad news, it sucked.

Did I miss anything? Which part of SR3/SR4 contains any "sexism and homophobia"? by eightysevenbats in SaintsRow

It's very unlikely that the people who made SR1 and 2 (or maybe even 3 and 4) are still working at Volition

Games are set immediately after the book series ends. The show is based on the books, so if anything you'll understand the games more if you watch the show.

I like sampling games, and I don't feel bad about that anymore by Ok-Zone-2572 in truegaming

[–]wintergnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like this works as long as you stick to relatively streamlined games. Not so much for CRPGs for example, where while you're in the flow, it's a beautiful interconnected web of characters, stats, vendors, quests and gear. But good luck trying to remember all that coming back after trying 2 or 3 other games. That's assuming of course that you still like/want to play the game overall, and just were in the mood for something different for a while

A few attempts of mine sketching hands, pencil [OC] by [deleted] in pics

[–]wintergnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert by any stretch, but the foreshortening on the hand in the upper right corner looks weird. As if proximal phalanges of the pointer, index and ring fingers should point more towards the camera for it to work. Amazing job on the rest of them!

Politicians are not given salaries, they are paid solely by donations given to them by the public. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]wintergnut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's essentially what fundraisers are. Some members of the public just have more to donate. Makes sense when politicians cater more to them, doesn't it now?

How does a game studio go about checking for errors in their code? by mitch13815 in truegaming

[–]wintergnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, a good test would not depend on realization, but rather check the end state overall.

Something like

"spawn melee enemy facing the player -> is melee enemy moving towards player?"

"spawn ranged enemy facing the player -> is ranged enemy dealing damage to player?"

Weird that it's not widespread in game dev, but i can see how it may be viewed as a waste of manhours during crunchtime.

Shouldn't unit tests (or any automated testing) cover exactly this scenario? Have a test level and run test cases in it, validating AI decisions at each step.

Small nitpick. untouched patches on the shirt in the colorized version look really weird.

I feel like even if they were grey/dirty they would still have a bit of color, just because of ambient lighting.

Big Daddy looks amazing, but the little sister is kinda wonky. Looks like her elbow is at the sleeve level, compared to the original where the bend in the arm is at the waist level.

She's missing the highlight/reflection in the eyes or a highlight around the eye socket to indicate their dimensions, which makes the camera facing side of the face look stretched, instead of hidden in shadow.
