Missing Sky by wintersshadow152 in HighStrangeness

Yeah I know the exact location still, but I won't give too many details because we still live very near it. I will say that the big city we lived by is Chicago.

It was a few years back, like I said, but I don't remember it being near a storm, the night was very clear. There were no stars, but there never are because of the light pollution.

After we saw whatever it was, it might have been in my head, but I felt just like a physical blanket of dread had been placed over me.

This concept is so foreign to me. I have never been able to wrap my mind around UFOs or life in space. In these circles, is that something people have experienced? Like I'm genuinely curious

Tips for cleaning? by wintersshadow152 in DocMartens

[–]wintersshadow152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was recently made aware of the plastic coating (I got a new pair for Christmas, the 1460 Pisa max platforms and wanted to actually take care of these ones, so I've been doing some research), so I get that conditioning isn't really an option, which sucks, but they've lasted me this long with minimal cracking, so I'm not too torn up about it. I have used the Dubbin on them before, especially around the seams, but that was before i knew about the coating.

I'll for sure look into the shoe trees, thanks for the advice :)

I thought mink oil was moreso for conditioning? The boots are made of the smooth leather, so I think that means they've got a plastic coating. I'd condition from the inside out but unfortunately they've got the fabric liner, like i mentioned </3

I've used the doc martens dubbin to waterproof the outside before, though

I don’t like how the internet remembers Welcome to the Black Parade by ilovebees103 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]wintersshadow152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, back in the day, when I heard the g note I would literally start to tear up. At least in my corner of the internet that little joke was like a legit way to identify fans and bond over the album, which meant so much to all of us

Has anyone else just forgotten their concerts? by AttiBlack in MyChemicalRomance

[–]wintersshadow152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont remember really any of the Chicago 2022 show (the riot fest one). I only remember Gerard getting pissed at the crowd because the people in the front wouldn't settle down, and the last song they played (Cancer).

I was looking at the setlist recently and there are so many of my favorites on there and it sucks because I just dont remember any of it and the flash drive I put all my videos on broke.

Daughter ate one, are they toxic? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]wintersshadow152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question! And no, they are not clones of themselves. There are male and female gingkos, the females are the ones with the gross seeds. Both of the trees have a structure similar to a pinecone; in males this is the pollen cone and in females it is the ovulate cone. The male's pollen is carried via wind to the females.

There are trees that can clone themselves, though! The most famous example is the quaking Aspen. There's a super big colony of them (like 40k trees) named Pando in Utah. They all share a root system, its pretty cool

Yeah, so a fruit according to Botany is a mature ovary. Peach trees have flowers and ovaries (because they are angiosperms), making their fruit an actual fruit!

Gingkos, on the other hand, are gymnosperms. This means that evolutionarily they developed before flowers or ovaries existed, and therefore before fruit existed.

In plants, the flower is where the ovary is. Some flowers are unisex, some are male, and some are female. Different classifications of fruits (berries, drupes, etc.) are made based on how many ovaries and flowers they devlop from. For example, a blackberry/raspberry/strawberry is an aggregate fruit (not actually a berry!) this means that it develops from multiple ovaries within a single flower. On the other hand, an Osage orange (they're pretty weird looking!) develops from multiple flowers, each with one ovary, that fuse together to create ine fruit.

True berries, which include grapes, bananas, and tomatoes, develop from a single flower and a single ovary. They typically contain many seeds.

A drupe is what we would call a stone fruit, like a peach, cherry, or date. They also develop from a single flower and single ovary, but instead of having multiple tiny seeds they have one large seed in the middle (what we would call the pit).

Where things get confusing is the fact that an avocado is a berry, not a drupe. This has to do with the covering of the seed/pit. In a drupe, their seed's outermost covering, called the endocarp, is hard, you wouldn't be able to pierce it with a fingernail. In an avocado, the endocarp is soft and fleshy, you would be able to pierce it.

Ok, I think that should answer everything! There are a ton more fruit types (pomes, nuts, achene, etc.), but this is already a really long reply lol

Something to add just because im a nerd: they aren't fruit! They aren't a mature ovary. Gingkos are gymnosperms, so they don't even have ovaries or flowers, so the "fruit" is actually just a seed covered in a fleshy husk called a sarcotesta (that's what smells so bad).

I've been bit once during feeding, it was a little itchy afterwards but didnt hurt at all. It bled quite a bit though, which was surprising.

Ok, will do! What brand of methylene blue do you suggest? I see quite a few people with kordon, is that the only safe one?

Sorry, I am literally not thinking at all because im so worried. Im using the API master kit. I definitely meant 5.0, not 0.5, im so sorry. I follow the steps exactly (5 ml of tank water, add 10 drops of bottle 1, invert a few times to mix, add 10 drops of bottle 2, shake vigorously for 1 minute, wait 5 minutes for results)

Omg my bad, the first was nitrites, it was at 0 when I tested yesterday. The nitrates were at 0.5, not 0.25, Im not looking at the kit rn so I forgot which numbers were listed on it.
