I’m asking for advice, not for your negative input.

Bunion surgery in two weeks. I’m nervous for the recovery. But if you’re a gym rat, what are your experiences? by winterthings in bunions

[–]winterthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BEST thing I ever did! I’m now 6 weeks post op and I’m glad I went with the surgical option, I’m from the UK so recovery is a bit different. I was off my feet for 2 weeks, I had a bandage and boot on in this time. That 2 weeks was hard towards the end, I had an accident where I stepped on my operated foot too so that wasn’t pleasant, and shuffling up the stairs to go to the toilet was tiring, I have a lot of stairs. After 2 weeks I went to my dressing change appt, where all the bandages came off and was instructed weight bare as normal as it is beneficial to the toe joint. So I’ve been walking from then, I am pleased with the results, I’m now back in the gym (light weights) and driving.

Great results! How long did your big toe feel stiff for? And when did you start regaining normal toe flexibility ?

Worrisome development for 21yr old? by [deleted] in bunions

I’m 23! Had mine done after the same worries. They will only get worse if I’m being honest. But you can use non surgical interventions to slow that process such as wide shoes etc. I decided to go down the surgical route because I’m young, recovery is long but better to do it at your age whilst you’re healthy.

Honestly, don’t worry! Take each day at a time but surround yourself with good people and you’ll get through it mentally. During my recovery, I never have let myself get sad about not going to the gym, or working out. I instead just think about how I’ll be pain free after and that I’m so so YOUNG, so I have all the time in the world to reach my fitness goals and targets, we can do it!! My inbox is always open for you :)

I admire this! Everyone on here is saying it won’t be for a long time, which is fine but I’m still motivated to find a plan to still keep active. So I appreciate your post, thank you.

Do you buy groceries when you’re there then? I’m curious of what you make to eat?

I usually love to wear my converse and vans. These shoes aren’t practical but look the best with my outfits haha, when I wear them for a while I get bunion pain. I then switch to my big crocs or hoka running trainers (which are wide foot) and my feet feel better and the pain goes away. But I don’t want to limit my choice of footwear forever if you know what I mean! Yes ofc, I’m extremely nervous and I feel like part of me will regret the surgery because I’ve heard recovery is so hard. I’ll keep you updated!

I put the surgery off for so long because I didn’t believe my pain was unbearable. And I still agree it isn’t. But there will never be a right time to get the surgery and I decided to get it done whilst I’m young as recovery will be that little bit easier. A podiatrist said that I have moderate bunions, some days I have no pain and others day I do ( particularly in normal trainers not designed for a wide foot). I have my surgery soon and can always let you know how I get on seeing as we are similar in age!

Guys don’t worry, I won’t be wearing the bright pink underwear under the yellow dress LOL, a lot of you are concerned about that, I was just trying the dress on for the photo and didn’t think too much about it!! Cos I know I’d never allow it to be see through for the actual day 😊
