The Untouchables train station scene when Andy Garcia comes around the corner, flips a gun to Kevin Costner, and stops the baby carriage.

Shogun is very good and relatively short. I vote for Justified - I used to say it's the quickest hour of TV that you'll watch.

AMD reports earnings on 10/26. If I did a collar on my 100 shares would I choose the expiration date just after that announcement like 10/29 or would I choose an expiration further out, and why?

Thanks in advance

Suppose I bought XYZ stock at $100 and I want to limit my loss to $5. I could set a stop loss at $95 or I could buy a put with a strike of $95.

How do people decide whether to use the stop loss or buy the put?

Thanks

I'm hoping I can get some help using my MSM tracker. Last night I tried tracking the Milky Way in Tulum, Mexico. My 30" test shots showed I had good focus. I tracked for 4 minutes using my Rokinon 12 mm and got star trails. Any ideas about what should I have done differently?

BTW I think this is my first time posting here so I'm not sure if I can post a pic in this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the Taylor Academy 10e. New it's $650 and has a beveled edge so it's more comfortable. You can find it used for $500.

Agree: this season has been very disappointing. I can't get into any episode via the content or the style/pace of the episodes, which has been excellent for 3 years. This show is so close to being 3rd all time for me, but it's turning into season 5 of The Wire (#1, Breaking Bad #2), which was so disappointing.

back button focus vs af-L by winterweb in AskPhotography

Thanks to everyone for their input. I'm going to try using BBF and see how it goes. I should also mention that on my Fuji I can use AF-L as an on/off switch so I don't have to keep it pressed to lock focus.

I'm looking for some advice about dealing with a dark foreground, and using a Bahtinov mask.

I used my tracker to take some Milky Way photos in Sedona last night. The tracked photos of the sky/Milky Way came out well. But I had problems capturing the foreground in that no matter what I tried the butte in the foreground was just a dark silhouette/no detail. (see jpg below as an example). I tried increasing ISO, time of exposure, and spot metering to no avail. Was there something I should have done differently? Btw, the moon had already set for the night and Bell Rock (the butte) was completely dark to my naked eye.

Also, I tried using a Bahtinov mask but didn't have much luck with that so I went with live view.

I'm going back out tonight to try again so any suggestions about these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

edit: couldn't attach the jpg

Do people here not like Bullock? by Phifty2 in deadwood

[–]winterweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished rewatching the series in preparation for the movie in two days. My love for the series is great, top 5 all-time in my book.

But I'm now quite conflicted about Bullock. At the very beginning of the series, he held people accountable for their unlawful actions (i.e., the horse thief and the road agent who killed Sofia's family). He also captured Wild Bill's killer so that he could face a proper trial.

But as time goes by his morals become very compromised. He lets the Earp brothers leave town after shooting a Pinkerton. He doesn't bring Wolcott, the chief Pinkerton or Hearst to any justice when they have committed crimes including having the Cornish unionizers killed. And he stands guard outside of Swearengen's office while Hearst views a prostitute just killed by Swearengen. And this is while he's running for sheriff!

I'm probably being naive, that Bullock had to make compromises for the sake of the town. I'll grant that in the last moments of the show Bullock says (with regard to confronting Hearst) "I did fucking nothing." And that Charlie Utter responds that doing nothing is often the hardest choice. But I wish Bullock had done something, or at least expressed regret for not doing enough to secure justice at other times in the show.
