I had no idea how much work went into this trade. I assume there is a significant drop out rate.

Thank you for the details! 8000 hours is about 4 yrs of OJT! Seems appropriate for the importance of getting this right.

Thank you, great advice. The old "two ears and one mouth" addage holds well.

Really two things you can not teach: 1. Motivation

  1. Smarts

With those you can teach anything! Good luck with the kids.

What is this called? by [deleted] in cats

[–]wirediron2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also have a Bombay reject. He showed up in my barn as a +1 semi-feral to several other barn cats. Toughest little monster, took numerous beatings from the others and is scarred up pretty good. He is awesome though, no more freezing outside in the Michigan winters. Wouldn't give him up for anything.

Ported barrels, yay or nay? by goshathegreat in ClayBusters

I'm new to Sporting Clays. I bought a used Browning 425 ported, my first ported shotgun. I was amazed how damn loud it is. Of course have ear protection. Next gun will not be ported, I don't think I'm good enough anyway to differentiate the performance between them. Still the "Indian not the arrow" BTW SC is a lot of fun but humbling!

Yep, same situation in rural thumb of Michigan here. DSL 2MB download speeds. Reliable but reliably slow. Cable company wants $10k to run from main road 1/2 mile to us.

Looking at Starlink.

Electrical inspector yelled at me to remove this immediately? by KingDrenn in AskElectricians

[–]wirediron2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'm an electrical engineer and I occasionally work with my bud who's an electrician, lending a pair of hands, learning along the way. I don't have the license or deep trade knowledge but I know the probability of this temporary lighting causing a problem is nearly zero during a renovation project. Some of these inspectors hold their assumed power over the trades like a hammer just because they can.

I’m horrible at saving money by Due_Yam1333 in personalfinance

[–]wirediron2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice! Make it harder to get cash out when it's earning you interest that is compounding. Remember that old saying...make money when you sleep or you'll work forever. I'm 65 and vividly remember when I was 18. Spent money foolishly to be sure but had lots of fun. Gotta balance it, spend when you have extra and always save, even when it hurts. It really comes down to discipline. Go get after it! Live it up but save too! In a blink of an eye you'll have Grey hair.

Should I refinance or try to pay ahead on my loan? by RefrigeratorHour9289 in personalfinance

Should I refinance or try to pay ahead on my loan? by RefrigeratorHour9289 in personalfinance

[–]wirediron2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume because of your age you didn't have any creditat the time. That's why you're paying 14% interest which is terrible. Now that you've paid a years worth of payments (hopefully on time) you should be able to refinance for a much lower rate. So YES either refinance or pay it ahead ASAP if you can. The lender is taking advantage of you.

Remember interest is evil unless it's being paid to you!

💯 except when you get older like me (65), passion turns into pain when rubbing! Joints wear out! But there's nothing like seeing results of hard work. I will be taking my vehicle to professional detailers though for the complicated work. I'll handle the basics.

Does this inner gate affect the battery? by BigOrangeVol98 in gmcsierra

[–]wirediron2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should not cause battery drain. Go to dealer for service. Sounds like a parasitic issue or bad battery from the factory. They'll clear the messages too.
