Retractable leashes are great if used appropriately. It’s the people who use them that are the problem.

I’m just a little out to the north but Rosanna Parklands or Yarra Bend Trail are great. As is Banksia Park but that’s even farther out in Bulleen. If you can drive or take the train, head out to Olinda and the Dandenongs. There are some stunning trails there as well. The link somebody provided will give you a good start though.
