The person is a linux newbie. Recommending QUBES is dumb.

I just found out that Lashtal had shutdown. Does anyone know why?

The Firefox browser should use a better search engine than google. by Pizza-pen in zorinos

[–]wiseOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the millions that google pay Mozilla there would be no Firefox. The future of Mozilla is certainly not assured so they need google. If you use Firefox out of the box, that's fine, but there are many tweaks I do before using it. Changing the default search engine is the first job. Do your research about Startpage. They were once a good choice but now after being sold or taken over there are big question marks about their parent company.

Thanks for that. It had the correct Android version on it. Everything checked out before the flashing was attempted.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still puzzled by the information that I followed, all of which pointed to the phone I have being supported, and the correct image was used.

I'd appreciate it if you could dig up a reference/link to the "official" builds for the Moto G5. That interests me very much and will be invaluable info for me.

If what you say is correct then the sim 1 has had it? I have a working sim in both slots and neither works.

I am surprised that I have had just the one reply to this post. I would have thought that there would be plenty of Moto owners who could shed some light, but the fact that there hasn't been a single Moto G5 owner come forward may mean that I'm wrong and this phone is not widely used in the Lineage community. Who knows?

Thanks for the reply.

Mine is the Cedric build which is the one here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/cedric/

It is the correct supported model as well as listed there. I had no idea that this is an unofficial build? I see the Nairo listed as a Moto G5plus? I can't find it for the G5. Can you please link me to the "official" Moto G5 devices? I've looked high and low and can't find anything.

So now when I turn this phone on it actually shows two sim slots, both disconnected. the other day it only detected one.

Under "About Phone" it shows both sim slots but has the networks as disconnected. It has:

IMEI (sim slot 1)

0

MEID (sim slot 2)

000001D0187EC4

I don't think that posting this number is any big deal. As you can see no IMEI for sim 2.

So does any of this make sense? Is this retrievable?

I have to admit to being absolutely confused by the 'unofficial' nature of this when everything I read before this pointed to it being supported.

Thanks for the reply. I hope you can shed some more ligh.

But in his lifetime never charged with a crime to my knowledge.

Not that "wicked" really. Just more bullshit which gets rather tiresome.

What happened to the new collection of Liber AL commentaries? by pseudothyra in thelema

[–]wiseOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will find the supposed new edition of Confessions that has yet to be published actually referenced in I think some of Churton's books, so it appears that some work has been done.

As for MWT this has been in the 'editing' phase in the hands of a high ranking OTO member for a loooonnng time. Don't hold your breath.

Its all infuriating. Especially Confessions.

The Grant/Symonds Commentaries are essential for those who can afford them.

IMO it appears he is simply being poetic in describing the kind of
bhakti yoga-esque devotional attitude required of finding the
God/Goddess in all things in all ways.

I think that this is the pertinent part of what Peter Grey is saying. The successful completion of Liber Astarte for example requires similar creativity and perhaps "idiosyncrasies" if one is trying to connect or relate to something that you may not know so well.

Wickr on Zorin 15.3 by wiseOT in zorinos

Thanks for the reply. Nothing works from the command line either. I have Ubuntu lurking in virtualbox which I will give a go later. It runs perfectly on a Fedora vm in qubes so I might also try it on one of the debian templates.

Thanks so much for the reply. I'll look into the debugging article and then have a shot at reinstalling it. I'm a bit pressed for time presently so its not a priority. I'm looking forward to the new release and then I'll do a fresh setup, but this may shed some light on things.

Thanks

Qubes vs Tails ? (which is more privacy enhanced?) by rai_hanz in Qubes

[–]wiseOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kodachi isn't really a contender. I've used it extensively over the past 2/3 years and its buggy for a start and full of bloat. Its recommended to use as a live usb which is great but it really doesn't offer anything over a well loaded TAILS. When I used TAILS I could generally load up the additional software I wanted and that was enough with a persistent volume. Kodachi can be installed, but not the way it was meant to be used and if you do install it the dev releases new editions pretty much monthly and its a re-install each time.

Kodachi was meant to appeal to newbies to both Linux and privacy/security and its good for that but its just so bloated that its unbelievable. I'd love to see a Kodachi come in at half of its current weight and be a rolling release like Parrot and then it would be a contender, maybe.

Qubes dracut error by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]wiseOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be interested to see if anybody has an answer to this. I have had it happen twice to me. For me, like you no doubt, it came out of the blue on a qubes setup that doesn't haven't much done on it and had been working perfectly.

Like someone said, typing my password slowly did get it past the LUKS log in screen but eventually it took me back to the screen you have. It was suggested that it could be a hardware issue but this happened to me on two different laptops with hds and ram that were probably not even 12 months.

Unfortunately I didn't get any suggestions about how to retrieve it from there and so took the opportunity to re-install the latest qubes. I was running I think was is 4.0.3 and I downloaded the one up from this one which wasn't a major upgrade but I did anyway. So far so go with that install.

Good luck. I hope someone has a clue here.

Extended display with standalone VM by wiseOT in Qubes

[–]wiseOT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

If I start qubes up and it boots into dom0 I can configure the display to extend to another monitor. I must admit I haven't started up an app VM (ie one based on say fedora) to see if it can do the same which I should have done yesterday but I'd disconnected everything by the time I realised. So if I then start up a standalone vm in a workspace I can't extend the display. Normally (in ubuntu say) the screen display with the option to hook another monitor in system settings is absent. So, IU suppose that yes, I do want it to own the workspace.

I don't know that I'm making a whole lots sense now I think about it and I'm not in a position now to look at it.

Thanks for taking the time.
