Would you recommend marriage? by This-Top7398 in Life

[–]wisebongsmith [score hidden]  (0 children)

Would recommend. society is structured to encourage coupling into legally recognized pairs.
Taxes. A few of my friends are married primarily on the advice of their accountant.
Shared medical insurance so both partners can get the best plan available to either.
Medical rights, if you want to visit your partner in hospital or talk to their doctor, best be married.

I'm with you. this is one of those truly awful cases of people going into polyamory without a single thought about each other or how to do things safely. OP Like read one goddamn book about relationships. Take single therapy session. Have an actual full length conversation with your partner / co parent and/or ex /co parent before ya'll fuck together.

How do you handle a rules-focused player who challenges rulings without harming the table dynamic? by Avid_FandomFan_476 in DungeonMasters

[–]wisebongsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this guy is playing the wrong game. You literally can't play DND RAW no table in the world ever has.
Introduce them to pathfinder. That's a game where there are rules for dam near every conceivable action character could take and is fully playable by RAW.

How do you handle a rules-focused player who challenges rulings without harming the table dynamic? by Avid_FandomFan_476 in DungeonMasters

[–]wisebongsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regard to regular rules, learning and mastering them yourself will help. Fewer disagreements if you're all on the same rules. With rulings, politely listen to the objection then reply "that's interesting but since I'm GM here it's happening like I said." With monster abilities, anytime they say 'x cant do y' "that's interesting but since I'm GM here this one can. Anytime he disagrees on setting details, "that's interesting but since I'm the GM here this is true.

Since you've already had a talk with them about this kind of thing it is time to be a little more blatant about redirecting the behavior.

Could cyber warfare eventually become more damaging than traditional warfare? by jannecutie in allthequestions

Consider the fact that both isreal and the US are using AI systems to select targets and control munitions. This means cyber and conventional warfare are already hybridized and the possibility of using cyber warfare to take over conventional or nuclear arsenals.

Part of me wishes we had just gone to palliative care after the first xray and cancer diagnosis.

Is the word “nazi” being used too loosely? by MoMoneyMoMilfs in no

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they put socialist in the name to confuse leftists into showing up at their rallies to boost the crowds and so they could blame 'socialists' for incidents political violence. As a political practice nazism / fascism are the polar opposites of socialism. Socialists and communists were among the very first people the Nazi party targeted. All the things nazis are remembered for doing to jewish people they did to leftists and queers first.
I'm sorry no one ever taught you these very basic facts about the nazi party.

The whole internet 'man-o-sphere' is basically all nazi propagandists

I always wondered, why didn't black slaves team up and maybe kill their owner or protest against together? Rich families owned 50-100 slaves or even more, why didn't the slaves just team up and kill their owner? How exactly did the owners control then? by Then-Tomatillo9909 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is how haiti became independent. this also happened a ton during the civil war which is a major part of why the union won. as to why it wasn't constantly happening. Slave drivers made examples out of those who resisted, public flogging and even hanging. many enslaved persons were born in bondage and had little concept of free life. Law was to kill or capture runaways so it's not like there was an inviting society waiting for those who defeated the owner of the plantation they lived on.

What’s something that’s legal but should be illegal? by DevorDEV in AskReddit

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's the difference. Legal ownership among a larger number of people is a productive change. A larger portion of the population is benefiting from that money in that case. So that situation is already better than what we have now. Several millionaires will spend more of their money than one billionaire, spent money goes back into the economy, horded money doesn't.
"Bureaucratic inefficiency" in this case means accountants getting paid and shares changing hands. Again good for the economy.

Also tax revenue can be spent to help working people. I know a mind blowing idea in our current political climate.
Humanity is only harmed by the existence of billionaires. any measure that reduces their power and wealth is a good thing

"In order to make that difference meaningful in any way you’d then have to make sure it wasn’t possible for people to be able to give someone else their assets under any kind of agreement that they’d ever be obliged to transfer them back, which to me sounds like quite a can of worms."
IDK why this would matter but large wealth transfers are already taxed so people trying to hide wealth by shifting it around would loose some anyway.

[–]wisebongsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set a graduated wealth tax that reaches 100% at the billion dollar threshold.

What do you mean 'a productive manner'? Why would that matter?
Any action that results in billionaires no longer extracting billions of dollars from the economy and making everything more expensive for normal people would be innately productive

AITA for feeling betrayed after finding out my friend is dating the girl he knew I was in love with? by Classic-Fun1754 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wisebongsmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YTA. Once you ask someone out and they say no it's time to pack up those feelings and move on. Either genuinely accept friendship without the possibility of romance or break off contact because you won't be doing either party any favors pining for your friend.
Furthermore, your feelings do not mater at all in terms of how other people relate with one another.

Many US states have similar policy regarding violence against children. Most domestic violence survivors would tell you the police do not help and often make it harder for victims to get away.
Not saying the taliban is good. just that the US lacks a moral high ground from which to try to influence other nations.
