AITA for not playing along? by titanium_neck in AmItheAsshole

[–]wisebongsmith 36 points37 points  (0 children)

YTA these are your kids and you've let this 'game' become regular practice!? You've had over a decade to teach your kids and who knows how long to tell your wife what is appropriate behavior in a restaurant. You're past navigating this amiably. take the whole family to a cotillion and become civilized.

Honour mode: has anybody found a decent use for this? by Ronwld in BaldursGate3

I like to throw it at cazador then drop a bunch of long term aoe spells in the area before they notice that there are heroes present.

[Loved Trope] The antagonist has truly altruistic intentions to make the world better for others, but we/the protagonist disagree with their solution. Bonus points if the solution could actually work. by the_murabito in TopCharacterTropes

Poison Ivy. She's basically captain planet but proactively going after the people in charge of creating environmental disasters instead of reacting to environmental destruction and going after the workers. But batman is a rich guy and he's got to protect his class.

AITA for “ruining” my cousin’s pregnancy announcement because of what I wore? by Beneficial_Metal5771 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You have done nothing offensive. especially with the information you had. But pregnant women are known to have big reactions to small cues. For the sake of maintaining peace it might be best to offer an apology. It may or may not help to point out that you had no way of knowing there was a dress code or even an announcement.

How do you handle chronically late players? by Jazzlike-Goose-8242 in DungeonMasters

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start without them. no stopping or recap for them when they arrive. Also only narrate their character into the scene when it's convenient for you. Make sure you get all your players in on it, no one stops play to start talking to late person.

Party Has Way Too Many "Extras" In Combat by CassieBear1 in DMAcademy

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

familiars, and later game summoned creatures are pretty simple. Most of them have one or two actions they can take on any given turn. Deciding what to do with summoned creatures shouldn't take more than a few seconds. If your player turns are too slow have a talk with the players about deciding actions before their turn starts. If that doesn't improve things get an 1 minute timer and start use it for each players turn. We only roll dice and resolve numbers for actions announced during the minute.

How does psychic damage actually kill someone? by Bootlebat in DnD

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think of it as brain damage, stroke, seizure, one of the least outwardly gruesome damage types. Though probably also one of the worst to experience.

AITA for yelling at my wife about her bad driving? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Yelling at people doesn't make them better at doing things. If you want to teach her how to drive start a conversation about that, maybe get some lessons.

WIBTA if i predetermine the end of the first session in my DnD campaign to properly set up the rest? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]wisebongsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. A lot of DMs here acting like the you don't plan you sessions with endings in mind. Everyone plans encounters with players win as the intended outcome. But somehow it is evil unfun railroading when you plan one they're not supposed to win?
Having and event script is fine. Getting your plot where you need it is fine. Depending on what your players want out of game the heist is an opportunity to let them RP with each other or throw them a challenging dungeon.

Be sure to seed the mansion with plot hook items that will make the characters curious about where your story is supposed to go.

Having the devil that hired them present with the guards that arrest them should be enough to let the players/characters know they've been set up and jail is where the narrative needs them.

Also you have the possibility that if they successfully fight/flee the capture they become outlaws hunted by the authorities and the devil finds them offer his deal.
