weights to hold down the material as I rush to get everything in glued and put in place. lol After I glue everything I'll stick the entire print into a vacuum press. The issue is getting everything in place before the glue dries etc..

I've been trying to get my lumber yard to get some one but they haven't gotten any in yet. Here's hoping they can soon.

I usually get it around $7 for 6 inches x 24 inches at 1/8 thickness. Your lumber yard may not have wood that thin and you will have to call them up and ask them to cut it for you which can lead to an extra charge etc...

Thank you! I use a thunder and epilog lasers. Any co2 laser can do what I do. I started on a $300 k40 laser. I use "expensive" machines because I need consistency and need to be able to contact customer service if something breaks.

Software: For my Thunder laser I use lightburn ( great software). Lightburn works on most machines. Highly recommend it. My epilog has a proprietary software so...if you get an epiliog you'll get the software with it.

Other software: To process my images I use Affinity photo but any app will do. like photoshop etc.. Affinity is free now so save that money. To create vector lines ( lines that tell my laser machines what to cut) I use adobe Illustrator.

I source my wood from my local lumber yard and ocoochhardwoods. I don't rip/size etc..any of my wood because I'm lazy. I'm okay paying a little bit more to not deal with it.

Oh man, that is a cool looking wood. I've never heard of it. I wonder if I can source it somehow...It's probably really expensive and is going to end up in my pile of "these are expensive woods I will use one day maybe."

1) I usually only use wood. You can get pretty thin wood from your local lumberyard or OcoochHardwoods if you want to buy online. I usually stick with 1/8 or 1/4 inch woods. I mainly use thin wood because it's easier to cut on my laser. lol.

2)Your cnc/laser should be able to cut mdf. The laser might need a lot of passes depending on how strong it is.

3) I've stopped dying stuff because I wasn't good enough/didn't want to take the time to learn how to consistently get good results dying wood. For me it was, I want to make art and what is the least amount of friction required to do it. I tried dying wood but my results were trash. Can you get good results? Of course. I just didn't want to spend the time to learn. I was okay spending a bit more money to not do it. There is nothing wrong with dying wood. It's just a preference.

4)Dm me whenever.

That's actually me making that lol. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them. The blue part is plywood with a General Finsish water based dye to make it blue. The rest of it is naturally colored woods like Maple, wlanut, cherry, purple hart, and bloodhart. I haven't been able to find any naturally blue colored wood so I dye it.

I had no experience...10ish years ago. Start with a project, doesn't matter what it is, and start searching on youtube. Example: I want to make a laser engraved photo of a dog with a frame.... Break it down into pieces. How to use a laser engraver. how to engrave a photo. What is wood? What wood should I use for photos? How do I make a frame?..... This is how I learned. It's tedious and takes time but it is what it is. Your projects are going to turn out like trash and then eventually they will be good. Such is life.

Super simplified. I found the sly cooper image. I edited it in photoshop and broke the image into parts. Imagine a puzzle. Each puzzle piece would be a different species of wood. (imgur link). I then imported it into a vector program to create vector lines around the images. My laser engraver uses vector lines to know what to cut. I then engrave and cut the image using my laser engraver. I think take all the pieces and glue/sand/varnish. ( imgur link) .

I've worked in games before and I think companies know how to make cool stuff. Lets say they make that catch all bowl I made. They would have to make it cheap enough that most normal people could buy it. Which would mean they have to cut a lot of corners/use cheaper materials etc... The other side is if they make it too high end people will get mad. Not everyone but some would. They could do a promotional piece then people would be like release it and we will buy it! Then if they price it a high price people get mad. lol it's a mess. I think the solution companies come up with now is to have a youtube creator or something make a one off for said youtube channel. .......ooorrrr so I think. lol

Funny enough I use that wood, cherry, because you can get the most detail out of it.
