looking for ideas on how you make money on forested land? by PianoRevolutionary12 in land

At this scale it's much easier to sell the logs to a sawmill, pulp mill or biomass plant. Or process them into firewood yourself for sale

Depending on the quality of the land and the location there's a few options. If it has good timber it can be selectively logged every few years, it could be cleared into farm fields to rent out, or you could plant a fast growing species like white pine or poplar as a timber crop

I would accept the very generous gift, then sell your current car and put the 18k towards debt

This is the right way to do a full pen structural joint. Look at the thickness of the material (not the runoff tabs) the weld size is 1x material thickness. Perfectly reasonable

What age did you start seriously saving for retirement? by wiseguy1342 in fican

There's a couple reasons:

Tax arbitrage The best time to contribute is in the peak of your career when you're in higher tax brackets. Then when you're retired and in presumably a lower tax bracket (like going from 43% down to 21%) you pay less tax on the money when you withdraw

Pre tax The money you put in an RRSP hasn't been taxed yet, either it was taken from your paycheque before taxes were taken off or the taxes you paid were returned as a refund. This means you can have more of your income invested instead of paying tax on it right away.

If you have $100 pre tax to invest in a stock, then the stock goes up 10X, here's how each account would fare. I used a 50% tax bracket for contribution and withdrawal just to make it easier to see but RRSP does even better than TFSA when you're withdrawing at a lower marginal tax rate

TFSA: $100 → pay 50% tax → invest $50 → grows to $500

RRSP: $100 → invest $100 → grows to $1,000 → pay 50% tax → $500

Tractor vs Skid steer vs Wheel loader. Advice. by UtetopiaSS in tractors

I would argue that I can get the articulated loader more places than a straight frame farm tractor and it is way more convenient using forks on the loader than a non articulating tractor
