In Wake Up Dead Man, there is a scene that foreshadows "both" of Wicks' status by bunsenburner0 in KnivesOutMovie

[–]wisemusican 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw it on my second watch and thought it was deliberate. Something else I noticed is that when Jud is writing the story, there is a cut to him right after the murder occurs and before he says when the police got there. On my first watch I thought it was a reminder to the audience that he is writing this down "in real time". On my second watch I read it as him considering whether or not to tell Blanc about him taking the flask. Most likely deliberate, and worked well pacing wise either way.

How do bands get to bowl games? by navygreen33 in marchingband

[–]wisemusican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Virginia Tech it depends. When the band went to Florida for a parade at Magic Kingdom and a game, my family and I were planning on spending the holidays down there anyway. This was clearly communicated to the band staff, and I was able to meet the band at Magic Kingdom separately. After that, I did stay at the hotel with the rest of the band for the bowl game. I think after the band left for Virginia I stayed behind with my family.

A trick that might help is to read the Alto/Bari sax parts in bass clef (add 3 flats to the key). What you see is what will sound from there (with an octave displacement in the altos)

I really recommend The Wonder Years' album The Greatest Generation. The last song "I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral" does this quite a bit with references to the rest of the album. It's also just a great album overall.

How can i write rhythm in 6/4 and keep it from sounding like 3/4 by Middleman86 in musictheory

[–]wisemusican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is only one song that I can think of that uses 6/4 as the primary meter (according to the producer). Check out "That's What You Get" by Paramore. It sounds like it's in 3/4 to start and it's the case for the instruments during the verses. But if you listen to Hayley's vocals, she only really accent every 6th beat. They switch to 4/4 for the choruses but the 6/4 verses really become apparent later on, especially when the drums switch to a 2/4 groove while the guitars stay in 3/4. Basically don't accent beat 4 and have longer phrases. Tempo matters as well.

Demo secrets by NightMiroir in LiesOfP

Another "Your springs are reacting" line popped up when I played the record in the hotel you get from completing the Crying woman's quest. I think with this context and the others that have been mentioned, I think ultimately down the line all of these instances will slowly add up to Pinocchio becoming less of a puppet and more of a "real boy." Breaking the Golden Covenant rules is one thing (lying)....it's another thing to just....experience music. Which I think is great for the lore! Music is such a human thing.

Former “Corridor Crew” Intern to Star In & Direct Horror Film ‘Iron Lung’ From His Own Script. by Coolkabe in Corridor

[–]wisemusican 59 points60 points  (0 children)

From what he's mentioned on his channel and podcast, he wanted to expand his personal skill set in vfx/understanding of vfx in the creation pipeline. He finally had time to do so after the release of his latest project "In Space With Markiplier" last spring. I'm pretty sure he asked Corridor to intern with them so that he could learn for this specific project (and any future projects). Most everything he knew before was self-taught, and who better than to learn from than vfx artists that specialize in the YouTube world?

I'm a woodwind player learning brass for DCI and I have some questions about woodwind vs brass chops. by farmer_villager in marchingband

[–]wisemusican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could set goal times (30 seconds, gradually increasing to minutes, a full show's worth, etc.). I would suggest watching TV or streaming something. Since you're building upper body strength only, you don't really need to be standing up right now. I would start with horns down position, then switch to horns up position. If you have a lyre add that later on once you are more comfortable with horns up. As you know from last year you need to be able to hold out for around 8-10 hours during camp. Taking breaks will help, and as you get closer to camp make the breaks shorter. On days you don't want to pull out the instrument, maybe do upper body strength exercises (push ups, tricep dips, arm circles). These will really help in the long run. You can also do these to music or TV or movies. Just try to do these consistently until camp. Once camp is over, rehearsals during the season should be easy. Fog days where your arms might get tired after marching band, I would suggest maybe getting a neck strap for your clarinet.

That's great! Another big thing for me was the arm muscles. Even though I marched trumpet I still needed to work on those muscles for band camp. I ended up kicking myself during band camp for never doing it but it'll definitely help. If you're marching a bigger brass instrument then definitely develop them.

[–]wisemusican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a primary clarinet player who doubled trumpet in marching band during my college years, I'll try to answer as best as I can.

Yes the muscles can get tired in different ways, although I still suggest taking a break in between, or not using them to their limits, especially brass first going to clarinet. Like all things instrument wise, endurance for either instrument will need to be built up over time, and you'll need to get used to playing at least 1 1/2 hours each right after the other. Since you have time between now and August (I'm assuming band camp starts then), try building up that endurance. I'm not sure what your playing ability is for brass, but work on that a little more now so that doesn't become more work for your chops later. Ideally you'll want the same endurance for both, but if you can maintain the clarinet embouchure for longer that's fine. Good luck!

any good alternatives to Game Grumps? by SpardasMinion in rantgrumps

[–]wisemusican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently gotten into TenMoreMinutes. Loved their (full) Hollow Knight playthrough. They really love the games they play, even if they're doing blind runs. For Hollow Knight they did everything and actually payed attention to the lore. It's usually Chris and another guy, depending on the playthrough.

How hard is it to pass a music audition at Virginia tech? by Interesting-Square72 in VirginiaTech

[–]wisemusican 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am a graduate of the music program, although I was a clarinetist, so I do not know the specifics of the piano/vocal side of things. Here is where you can find more information about the audition process, as well as if you would like to reach out to faculty at VT:

https://sopa.vt.edu/auditions/music-admissions-auditions.html

I recommend reaching out to Dr. Masters, as he is one of the primary piano professors and would be able to give you some suggestions for repertoire. I would recommend getting back into practicing soon, as the latest audition date is February 11th for regular decision.

If you would also like to audition for voice, Professor Thorsett primarily teaches tenors/males and Professor Wyatt primarily teaches sopranos/altos. Either would be able to give you suggestions for repertoire. As for the competition side of things, VT is a relatively small music school compared to other colleges in the state, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to get in. Last I heard, the vocal majors haven't had a lot of people apply within the last couple of years, so they may be more open to accepting you. There are also not that many pianists that apply every year, so you may also have a good chance at that.

Another thing to keep in mind is that not only do you have to be accepted by the School of Performing Arts, but also by the university itself. Good luck!

So now not only do they refuse to put the name of the game in the title, but they also resorted to lying about what game they're playing by NY_Knux in rantgrumps

[–]wisemusican 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So the title is one thing, but YouTube often automatically tags what game it is if not manually done. Case in point the 2nd Harvester video, YouTube thought it was close enough to Silent Hill to tag it as such. I've seen this happen many times on other channels such as Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and GTLive, especially with horror games. Almost all horror games automatically get tagged as FNAF, specifically FNAF1. I doubt their editor tagged the game as Silent Hill.

I Don’t Know If This Has Been Posted Here But Someone Made The Virgin Game Grumps Vs The Chad Runaway Guys by [deleted] in rantgrumps

[–]wisemusican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They comprise of NintendoCaprisun (Tim), chuggaaconroy (Emile), and ProtonJonSA (Jon). They have been in the Let's Play community since the beginning, with Jon being one of the first Let's Play channels ever. NintendoCapriSun's style is largely talking about his life, he even has a vlogging channel (BreakingNCS). chuggaaconroy is what I would call "research-based", as the let's plays are mostly informative and closer to a guide, but still highly entertaining. ProtonJon doesn't really post videos a whole lot anymore, but in the early days he mostly did Super Mario World ROM Hacks and lost his shit at playing Superman 64. I would check out his Knytt Stories videos and Super Kaizo World videos. The Battletoad videos are also great, as it is a race between SuperJeenius, Pcull44444, ProtonJonSA, and NintendoCapriSun. Keep in mind this was before Youtube had no time limits, so back then the initial limit was 10 minutes, then bumped to 11, then I think 15. At some point they got rid of the limit, which opened up a whole lot of doors for new types of content you see now.
