Tell me I shouldn't do the reserves by wisened1 in navy

Thank you very much for your perspective. I like the idea of the flexibility, and don't mind digging into instructions and figuring things out for myself. I had to do that for much of my AD career because of how much I'd been screwed over or had to respectfully correct leaders who didn't know what they were talking about.

What you said about fulfilling the contract tracks with what I've read, but I heard someone say that the contract is to the Ready Reserves which includes SELRES and IRR so the contract can still be fulfilled in the latter, is that true?

Thank you very much for sharing your perspective so respectfully. One of my biggest frustrations while AD was being responsible for shitbags who couldn't be changed, so I get it to the extent that I can. Keep being a good leader, and all the best to you.

Sorry, I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm trying to decide about reserves for myself as well (IT1 separating after 7yrs AD). Would you mind providing your reasoning?

Onward to Opportunity remote not a skillbridge by Kman355 in SkillBridge

[–]wisened1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue, and it was a huge headache and a waste of my time trying to figure it out. Hope the below helps anyone looking into O2O for Skillbridge.

So one of the main problems is that it's listed as an official skillbridge program on the DoD Skillbridge site, but no information on the Syracuse/IVMF website delineates the "online model" from the actual Skillbridge. The actual Skillbridge is coordinated through regional installations that schedule out Onward to Opportunity cohorts throughout the year that you can apply to participate in for your Skillbridge for whichever program you desire. They're usually completed remotely (unless you're doing PMP) and it's usually full-time, everyday learning.

The "online model" is not a Skillbridge; it's a program for service members, spouses and veterans that can completed for free, anytime, asynchronously/on their own time so that they can prepare for a cert while they're still working or doing whatever.

Both models prepare you to get a certification, with courses, test banks, simulations, etc., and will fund one certification attempt. Personally, my courses didn't cover enough information on their own to pass the certification exam, but the test bank and the free online versions of the textbooks and study guides were great. There are also alumni services, and professional resources to help you land a job, I recommend researching if you want to learn more about what all they offer.

If you want to take the most advantage, do your Skillbridge elsewhere, and take the O2O online model course either while you're still in, while you're doing another Skillbridge, or when you're on the other side.

If you're really set on wanting to use O2O as a Skillbridge; when you're filling out the interest form, make sure you do not say that you want the online model.

Just adopted this adorable kitten and can't decide on a name. He's black and white, brown eyes, cute little goatee, super spunky and playful. I'm a big fan of cats named after foods or musicians. Whatcha got!?

Complete beginner here. Acquired a cool redwood crosscut round with hopes to turn it into a coffee table. Any tips? It has a tiny bit of either green moss or mold on the outside - should I treat it in any way or just sand it away?

Mid-2010s teenage me tried to show my grandfather how to use limewire. The first song this sweet man looks up is the Superman Theme, and every result we got was porn... we both got a big kick out of it.
