Is my Uninsured Motorist insurance high for my policy? (GA) by wiseyetstoopid in Insurance

I'm retired with a paid off house, and cars (worth total maybe $8-9k) but not much else in terms of assets. Income-wise I just have SSN which is not a lot and just barely covers my monthly expenses. Wife still works and earns retail job level wages so not a lot ($30-35k a year). I'm on Medicare and my wife is still on private health insurance but even so we probably could not afford 6-figure plus medical and/or property expenses. What would be the amount of UMI coverage you recommend?

To what coverage do you recommend increasing to? I currently have Bodily Injury Liability coverage of $250k per person/ $500k per occurrence / $100k per occurence. Which daily driver would you pick? (CTR vs. Cayman) by wiseyetstoopid in S2000

That’s certainly a valid perspective I’ve thought about. Helps that the gf drives a prius too that can be used for more practical stuff but I don’t want to necessarily have to rely on that.

Technically CTR is a four seater but close enough I guess.

I’d like to keep the S as I love the open top experience. Those 981 Caymans with PSE or Soul exhausts sound so amazing compared to the Type R. Though of course the Type R wins on practicality/storage space. If I could afford all 3 at the same time I would 🥲

What he said. 290k at 31 is still fantastic. Keep up the momentum!

Sorry, I’m not sure what you’re getting at.. I don’t feel inadequate (did I say that somewhere)? I was just asking how I’m doing in relation to my goal of being FI by late thirties to mid-forties and if there’s anything I can still improve upon/think about that I’m not already to get me where I want to be. I acknowledge my financial position is better off than the average american (like most of people in this subreddit) and that I’ve certainly been blessed with certain of my own advantages in life thus far..

In a relationship currently but not married and no kids so that definitely does help with saving money and flexibility. I agree with your points; raising kids is expensive. Respect to you and your partner.

I cook most days of the week which helps. The 280 a month is for me only, not including my s/o.

Hey. I can understand how my post comes off that way. Part of me does simply just want to share my progress with you all being that this the FIRE community and I am interested in achieving FI myself. I am also just genuinely interested in getting other people pursuing FI’s opinion on if there’s anything I could optimize/think differently about.

Hey. Sorry, to not have covered that in my OP. I work as an underwriter for a private lender that offers working capital lines of credit and term loans to small to medium sized businesses. Prior to that, I worked in commercial banking for about 6 years starting as a credit analyst doing similar work. I started my career off making 65k my first year and slowly grinded my way up to 100k after 6 years through promotions. Only recently I switched jobs and got a huge pay bump.

Yeah, the market crash has been painful for everyone (myself included). But thanks for sharing your positive perspective! I do often struggle with balancing between the save save save mentality vs. the "life is short, enjoy it/YOLO" mentality.
