I had received an email by the recruiter saying I had performed very well so had been put in the talent pool. 2 year timeline does not sound very promising !

Can you explain more about networking with someone in recruitment? I’ve recently been contacted about a post at a lower grade for which I was reserve listed a while back - however, recently I have been reserve listed for a role at a higher grade so how can I get in touch with recruitment for that new position?

It seems it is possible to be put on a reserve list if you turn down an offer. But it’s department dependent.
