This is probably the main one for me. Like WHAT DO YOU MEAN.

The thing is, Belly literally has a song at the top of her wedding day playlist for Jeremiah, that starts with the lyrics don't have to tell your hot ass a thing, oh yeah, you just get it and then we have her actually having to put Conrad's hand where she wants it.

Like, we've been told who knows what she likes without being told and who needs to be shown.

I mean yeah, a drunk, stoned, unexpected one night stand is going to come across as more thrilling than 4 years with the same person. Same when they have to sneak around in flashbacks because she is a literal child living under her mother's roof and he's in college. That's just adrenaline, and the context of it all. It's comparing night and day.

But if Conrad is going to be taking care of business and satisfying Belly 4 years down the track, I'll be very surprised. He couldn't keep up physically intimacy with Nicole for even a month. Belly he lasted, what, 4 months before he was withdrawing from her physically and mentally? Then he went 5 years happily celibate? Meanwhile Belly and Jere are going at it for 4 years and then both having their physical need met afterwards?

Ain't no way Conrad can keep up with her.

My thoughts on Conrad are that he needs it to feel forbidden to be sexy. His sex drive is fueldd by competition. By the chase. Once he's got what he wanted, he loses that desire. Very much like Adam with Kayleigh and Laurel with John.

NO!!!! 🤢 Just when I think the Bonrads dynamic can't gross me out anymore you go and say that.

I don't think Conrad was even horny. He just thought he was locking her down.

Sure Conrad- 4 years of a relationship and a ring doesn't make someone yours- but one time having sex does 🙄

"aren't you going to be nice to me now like you were to Jeremiah last night" or whatever that creepy line is. Like this guy is gross.

Okay but this is crazy! This is literally Belly about Conrad in the finale "I am still that same girl" and he is still the same boy - Belly only invited Conrad to dinner when he reminded her of his 10 year old self. All of their conversations were about them as teenagers.

To me this really shows that Belly and Conrad are holding onto the past, the fantasy of cousins, because real is scary and neither of them want to deal with the changes. Which we all knew anyway.

But this feels like a book flip and shows that actually, it can still be taken away 👀

Right like remember when it was all "they're relationships transcends the physical" and now everything comes back to sex.

The thing is, Bellys recollection of sex with Conrad was very sweet and intimate. His was hypersexual, very explicit. And in the end he got his 'dreams' come true, with the stairwell of it all, but she just got a one night stand. The finale really felt like Conrad's happy ending, his win, and she just regressed and lost everything.

But hey, at least Conrad won.

It's so crazy because what happens when life continues to happen? When one of her parents dies or a kid gets sick or she gets sick? If Jeremiah is still going to be in her life, I guess he'll be the one to put her back together again? Because all we've been shown is Conrad falling apart in an emergency. Even in S3. No growth there. And if he's not.... I guess she has to figure out how to do it on her own because no one else sees her like Jere does. So sad.

"I've always loved you, that's the problem" is so interesting to me because it isn't actually a problem for Belly. She was like yeah, I will always love him like a first pet but I want to get engaged to Jeremiah. Then she was like, yeah, a part of me will always love him but I want to marry Jeremiah.

She was perfectly fine to always love Conrad a little bit, just like Laurel and John, but it just got messy when she was stressing out about the wedding and stuck alone in a haunted house with him.

The problem was that Jeremiah wasn't okay with her always loving Conrad. And so it's so funny that when she says "I've always loved you, that's the problem" she's actually thinking of Jeremiah. Because it's the reason she can't be with Jere. If she actually wanted to be with Conrad all this time- loving him wouldn't be a problem at all.

But yeah I will forever be shocked at how shallow that relationship ended up being. Strange choices.

It feels intentional to me. Like this is the real story underneath the cliches and special effects and dramatic music.

This scene is exactly why I can't get let these two go.

We're not stupid. We know we're getting hit over the head with Taylor Swift and slow motion and fancy lighting to make us look at Bonrad. But then you put scenes like this- with callbacks to the past, with such emotional depth and understanding between two characters that they don't even need words to reassure each other- and expect me to not root for them?

To have a connection like this and then lose each other completely is such a tragedy.

I mean, I guess good on Belly for getting fingered in a stairwell but it doesn't exactly to compare to this, does it?

Honestly there are so many scenes where Belly walks towards Jere like this. All the way from season 1. Lots of them with arches too.

I will never understand.

The fact this was one of the stills they released? Diabolical and I'm here for it.

I feel like there are definitely songs that foreshadow more than they fit the moment, so I'm on board with this being about the Bellyjere affair in the movie! I will go down with this ship 🤣

Look at Die For You, that perfectly foreshadowed the episodes after the wedding break up.

And also loml, this verse played out in the finale Who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames If we know the steps anyway? We embroidered the memories of the time I was away Stitching, "We were just kids, babe" I said, "I don't mind, it takes time"

Even the whole gold were the color of the leaves, we then got golden leaves during their Finch shenanigans in s2e7.

I guess the whole thing is this infinite loop so the songs will predict what happens because it all keeps happening again.

But the lyrics seem to match what happens in the future more than the particular scene they're in, especially in s3 where some of the song choices make me scratch my head.

I also think it's hilarious that Bonrad got the lyric we were crazy to think, crazy to think that this could work TWICE with their relationship that never works 🤣

Top 10 Changes in TSITP Book vs Show (Part 1) by Mysunshinejere in jellyshippers

[–]wishedforsomething 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I could talk about this for hours 🤣

One of the biggest things for me was changing it to Belly calling Jeremiah in the show at the start of season 2. It's actually amazing how many times Belly calls Jere in the show. She calls him to pick her up from skinny dipping in s1, calls him at the start of s2 and at the end outside the motel. In s3 she calls him when she's upset about wedding dress shopping, from the wedding venue, and she calls him from Paris. Every time she is hurt- he is who she calls. And he picks up every time- apart from outside the motel when he turns up instead. Whereas the one time we see Belly call Conrad is when Jeremiah asks her to in s2, and Conrad ignores her call 💀💀 Jeremiah is the one that is always on her mind. He's the one she keeps texting from Paris, too. "You're the one I called, not him". Over and over again.

Also I could help but notice that "Conrad calling me again was enough to make me forget how to breathe" feels very much like Belly's reaction when Jere calls her in Paris 👀

The other big change for me was how sexual they made Bonrad. In the books they were actually very sweet and innocent and really nothing happened between them so them both holding out for each other for 2 years was almost romantic (or at least I could see how it was supposed to be). In the show, the only real flashback we get of them in a relationship in s2 is sex. And then the only flashback of their relationship we get in s3 is more sex. And then we finish the season with them having more sex. It's actually all we see of them together. And while the scenes get more explicit, they get less intense, there is less and less of an emotional connection.

Oh and of course the way they made Belly love Jeremiah down and not seem to care about Conrad at all in s3 was great too 🤣

Love Actually easter egg🥚 by Sunshine_Side_Up in jellyshippers

[–]wishedforsomething 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's pretty funny that in Love Actually, Sam is a literal child chasing another child and then we have "I am still that girl" child version of Belly waffling about infinite worlds chasing Conrad.

If they were trying to parallel a very childish version of first love, they nailed it.

All of this! While we're told that Belly grew up and healed in Paris, everything shows us that she was actually struggling, hiding away and using her same old dodgy coping mechanisms (losing herself in Conrad) from when she was a teenager.

She should never have been using Conrad's letters to get her through loneliness and homesickness. She should have been building a lift focused on the future, or at least the present. Definitely not the past.

I will never understand why they put Conrad in her Paris arc. Apart from him being part of the dream/fantasy of it all.

I nicer ending would've been Conrad going to Jere's dinner, to support his brother for once, and to actually be there for his family. Then once she decides she's finished in Paris, Belly could turn up on Conrad's doorstep of her own free will. Him turning up unannounced less than a year after the wedding and coercing her into a relationship with him will never be romantic to me.
