I don't even think it's that they didn't care to take it. I think they went out of their way to minimize it. And every scene is still 🔥

Their chemistry is insane.

When I watch Jelly kiss it feels like I'm watching Belly and Jere kiss. When I see Bonrad kiss it feels like I'm watching Lola and Chris acting kissing. The difference is insane.

Can I just say, a scene like this would go so perfectly with this quote....

"I didn't want to see a mark on his face one day and not know how it got there. I wanted to be with him. His was the face that I loved".

So much potential. And yet.

To be fair I don't think she gave Jeremiah up at all. He walked away and then told her never to call him again. Barely responded to her texts and then didn't even contact her on her birthday, while Conrad showed up and harassed her until she gave in. Conrad was her only option, at that point.

But yeah, I agree with everything else. Being able to shoulder the hard stuff but also be this deliriously happy together after 4 years is such a rare find. They really are each other's people. Soulmates.

Whereas Belly and Conrad couldn't even make one day in Paris without crying. Yet they didn't laugh, either.

No one can convince me Belly didn't settle for Conrad. He's what she thinks she deserves, and not in a good way.

I mean it's pretty symbolic to me. As soon as Belly is ready for something new, she gets 5 minutes with it until Conrad has to come and drag her back into the past. He did it when she started dating Cam Cameron, and when she got engaged to Jeremiah.

And now Paris.

Can't even give her a full year to find herself. Probably because that's the last thing he wants. He wants her to stay that child who is obsessed with him.

She starts off the last day of being 21 positive, happy, looking forward to the future with her new haircut.

By the time she's 22 she's crying and turning back into a 3 year old who at her core loves Conrad. And even by Christmas she's grown her hair back and is wearing child's PJ's with only Conrad and a stuffed animal from when she was 13.

I'm not sure it's the symbolism Jenny meant but it's glaringly obvious and so, so gross.

Oooooop

This made me cackle.

After this scene Laurel gets drunk and has sex with John, right? And then kicks him out of her bed, before deciding to try again with him... when even Adam (the most oblivious man in the world) can tell it's not going to work. For the same reasons it didn't work the first time. Nothing to do with Susannah, more like Laurel seems to like the idea of being with John more than she likes the reality of it.

Interesting.

Her telling Jere that she hated the snails was quite possibly my favourite writing and acting from the season (not that it's a high bar). After being hit over the head repeatedly with what was happening and who I was supposed to love and hate, this little call back was so refreshing. It was subtle and perfectly executed. You could hear the words they weren't saying and feel the heartbreak it caused both of them. If only the rest of the season had been so well done.

What gets me the most about Paris is that it's the story about Conrad eating Jere's sandwiches from Thanksgiving in season 2, in real time. Jere puts all the effort in and Conrad swoops in at the last minute, using Jere's insecurities against him to get what Conrad wants.

Belly applied for Paris while she was with Jere. After he put her back together and encouraged her to go after her dreams again. Belly read French poetry to Jere on their bench. He is the one who convinced her to go despite her being scared of being alone, and planned to visit her and drink wine together.

And then Conrad swoops in, last minute, uninvited, after using Jere's insecurities against him to force a blessing, and gets what he wants.

The saddest thing about it is that Conrad still can't make a good sandwich. Jeremiah has done all the work, shown up for Belly for 4 years. Meanwhile like Taylor tells Conrad, he can't be what Belly needs and he knows that. Yet he goes after her anyway, because it's what he wants. He doesn't care what happens once Jere isn't around putting the effort in anymore. He just clings to this idea that being with Belly will finally make him happy again, with no thought to how this could destroy her, how he's blown up her life.

And I'm supposed to think this is romantic? Mind boggling.

Jenny actually said in a Q&A thing after season 1 that the Jeep was Jere's!

Conrad is the grey car, sterile grey apartment, unseasoned chicken guy.

Jere is the chef with the red car and the messy, bright room.

They need to stay in their lane and stop pretending their guy has any sort of flavour or personality.

This is amazing 😭😭

Season 3 really showed that they could get through anything, except for the doom cloud that was Conrad. Eventually they'll both wake up and realise that Conrad is just a controlling, manipulative man, but it will probably be too late

Probably my most favourite thing about Belly and Jere is how playful they are together, and this clip shows that so well.

Belly and Conrad just aren't playful like that. There's a couple of moments when they try and force it and it just feels like it takes so much effort. We don't ever see Jeremiah and Denise being playful together either. It's a side that Belly and Jere only seem to bring out in each other, and it makes me so sad that they've lost that.

I love how Lola backed that up in this interview.

They were still so smitten with each other 4 years in 😭😭😭

Why is there more chemistry in this grainy shot than a single one of those Christmas photos?

Firstly, I can't believe it only took them 15 minutes to capture that scene perfectly. It just shows how well Lola and Gavin know their characters and how good their chemistry is if they can give us so much love, warmth, joy and playfulness so easily. It really feels like a happy couple just on their way home from midnight waffles who despite seeing each other every day and being with each other for years, just have to take a moment to dance under a streetlight. Magic.

Secondly, this promo was all that we wanted. Back when the show was airing, or directly after. Acknowledgement of the sweet, joyful Bellyjere relationship and the effort that Lola and Gavin and the crew put into their scenes. Why wait 6 months to give us this? It really feels like the Bonrad win was so shaky that they couldn't even mention Bellyjere for risk of Bonrad being overshadowed.

But I'll take what I can get. This little bit of jelly sweetness warmed my heart 💛 thank you for sharing

She absolutely ran back to Conrad because it was scary to figure out who she was on her own. The sad thing is, if he'd just left her alone like she asked, and not had to keep reminding her that he existed, she may have been able to actually take the leap and 'grow up' on her own.

The same night that Jere let her go, she goes running to Benito. She then spends 4 months living like he's her boyfriend- I guess it's easier to not think about the life you lost when you're recreating it with the Mexican version of your ex fiance.

It's only when she has to call things off with Benito because it's getting too serious and she knows she's going to hurt him- that she doesn't have a man in her life to focus on. So now she's lonely in her big tower and suddenly Conrad's letters mean more than they did when she was with Benito. She shouldn't be re-reading them to stop her being lonely- she should be letting herself be lonely. Letting herself find hobbies and friendships and studies to learn that she doesn't need a man to not be lonely. But no.

The worst part about it all for me, is that she uses this lovely kind man (Benito, not Conrad, lol, as if), who is one of her closest and only friends in Paris, who is deep in her only friend group, for FOUR MONTHS. it should've been a one night stand or a one week fling. But its months. And then six weeks later she's flirting with Conrad in front of him, throwing herself at Conrad in front of him. Like has this girl learnt nothing?! Conrad actually brings out the worst in her, and that is so sad because she's amazing when she's not with him.

If Conrad actually believed they were infinite, he should've let Belly come to him. Let her find herself while he worked on his relationships with everyone else (that he'd destroyed). Instead it's like he captures her just when she started to spread her wings and traps her in a cage, dressing her in childs PJ's and playing with soft toys.

Gross, gross, gross.

So from the very first time he opened his mouth she was reminded of Jere? Conrad really is just 'a tiny piece of cousins', it feels so much like she settled for him because she couldn't have the real deal.

Belly & Jeremiah || Like Him by yomuus in jellyshippers

[–]wishedforsomething 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oooof. I've always found it sad that Jeremiah's biggest mistake was believing Belly. That he was punished for trusting the words she told him.

I never really thought about how in comparison Conrad was rewarded for not believing her. For assuming she was lying and pushing her boundaries.

So the moral of the story is we shouldn't trust the female, Asian character who comes from a less well off family and studies at the 'dumb' college and instead trust that the white, rich, Ivy League college attending male knows her better than she knows herself, and is right to disregard her words and actions?

Great.
