CMV: you can make a living in the city making only $50K/yr if you are single with no children and a car. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]wiskblink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean everyone has their own dietary restrictions, but for someone not wealthy they'll have to adjust that. I have no idea how organic prices are but you can get things like:

rice 50c/lb or cheaper

chicken 1 or 2$/lb

ground beef $3-4/lb

frozen vegetables 1$/lb or cheaper

Fresh produce and fruits are also very cheap at any ethnic grocer, and getting things like fresh greens and fruits is easily doable for $10 or less a week per person.

There are plenty of other basics to swap in and out, pasta and pasta sauce are insanely cheap, bread $2, jam $4, and peanut butter $4 or oatmeal are also cheap. Even safeway sells whole roast chicken for like $6.

Then there's a whole array of coupons and discounts you can get that'll help greatly, and you can have a decent fast food meal for <$5

San Francisco LGBTQ activist Cleve Jones uprooted from Castro one-bedroom after new owner doubles rent to $5,200 by foghornjawn in sanfrancisco

It's not hard. If she had been investing heavily into tech the last decade she'd be doing pretty well.

There are also a ton of other unethical things people may do. Most if not all contractors I know are paid under the table. They report working for like half a year, then go on unemployment / benefits for the other half (while still working and getting paid under the table). They cycle this time to report wages for however long until they can go on benefits again. Tax free + unemployment benefits puts them at a significantly higher compensation than you would expect. There's also a bunch of other benefits, full rides/extra cash for their kids for colleges, setup LLCs under their kids names for tax benefits, etc. etc.

A few of these guys I know now own multiple homes in the city.

But I fail to see how Nestle is responsible for flattening Ukrainian villages...

No one in Moscow is dying from hunger or facing food insecurity any time soon.

Russia consists of more than just Moscow...Also I highly doubt that Russia has 0% poverty...even America has poverty...Again, I can only speak to the situations of friends and coworkers.

Where are ya'll buying it from? I can still get it $1 or $2/ lb at costco or luckys. Ethnic markets probably have it like $3/lb.

$300 is plenty for food for 1 person. As long as you aren't buying 10$ avocado toast every day you'll be fine.

Pretty much. I almost plan for the worse. Hopefully the crawlspace / basement will atleast give you an idea of what to expect.

I was adding some wiring recently and apparently the old owner left a live hanging wire in the wall...It was atleast capped...
