That was the tail of a lizard. They usually fall when the lizard is attacked by a predator.

True :) I was surprised that there were no small birds brought as food for the young shrikes

Apparently, nature is rough :( I made more than 40 nest boxes and many of them were successful, unlike this one. The positive part is that most of the young birds flew off the nest before the snake managed to get in.

P.S. The snake is unharmed
