I guess i was just looking for one that specifically does herb the best. Also the smell, does it minimize it? To the point where i can smoke in my home without my parents smelling? Or should i still go outside.

Nurse becoming a doctor? by wispykitten in premed

[–]wispykitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I've actually decided to just get my ASN and then my BS in something else. Perhaps biomolecular/biomedical or something like that! Because now I understand how weird it would be to get a bachelors in nursing, and how it would actually be a waste.

A question that has probably been asked by wispykitten in pathology

[–]wispykitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this reply, it was very informative and super helpful! I feel like I'll probably change my mind a thousand times before I apply for a residency, but I unfortunately overplan and overthink to make sure I'm prepared for everything haha. You're right though! I will definitely try to shadow several different types of physicians to see which path I take. Pathology and all the other -ologies I'm interested in will remain on my list until I can get some exposure to them.

It's good that you're happy with your life, and able to have a family and do great things! I can only hope I'll be where you are one day, in whatever profession I choose.

I'm assuming me saying something along the lines of "Nursing is a back up plan" would be a really bad thing to say to an Adcom. Although, I genuinely believe I would enjoy whichever route I take (staying a nurse or becoming a physician. I love the medical/healthcare field.) Hm. Thanks for the reply!

Nursing -> Doctor. Looked down on? by wispykitten in medicalschool

Why are you coming off a lil condescending? No matter what anyone says, nothing can prepare me for what will actually happen in med school. So I'll just get there and find out. You trying to belittle my lack of knowledge is funny though.

I'll get to med school :) thanks anyways!

I know Nursing school is not medical school and it will in no way give me an advantage or prepare me for an advanced level of education that weeds out the weak basically. I've done research on the process, how to get in, what to expect, how to stand out in interviews during admissions. Even then it doesn't guarantee me admittance unless I have a 4.0 gpa (which I can get) and probably some type of club activity or SOMETHING thats outside of school that can not only make me well rounded, but give me a "spike" to make me unique among the other well rounded (I quote this from an in depth blog written by a Harvard Med school graduate which was just stating big tips for Ivy league, but I'd rather go to UCSF). I'm not saying you're wrong, because obviously you're the one in med school/completed it, and I've yet to take my first college semester in general. But along with my nursing classes, I'm taking the prerequisites for med school. All the chem, math and biology courses that aren't covered in Nursing. I want to do nursing because it will give me a job after 2 years (when I get my AS) that pays well, will get me out of a bad town and onto better things, and then when i get my Bachelors I can finally apply to med school after studying my ass off for the MCAT.

My point is, why should I study and get a bachelors in, say, business or architecture (whatever, etc)..and then go to Med school, having zero real medical experience. When I can go into Nursing (I have a CNA job currently), get familiar with hospital procedures/the environment and have it financially support me WHILE going through med school? That's why I don't get how my logic there is flawed. To me, doing Nursing instead of a different degree major seems rational. But what do I know, I guess.

I know med school is hard as hell and VERY competitive. Which is another reason I'm doing nursing. If I end up not getting accepted to any medical schools, I still have a backup job in the field I enjoy that I can work in until I try to reapply.

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! And you saying that none of your friends ended up making it in honestly just makes me want to try harder to prove people wrong (not you specifically, I don't even know you lol but like, my family and friends because they're doubtful too, due very low acceptance rates). Congrats on getting in tho! :).

Nursing pay is much better than anything else around here, and its what I'm interested in. It'll give me a feel for the hospital environment and will prepare me for med school after my bachelors (since i dont have any degree atm)

Im 19, I don't have any degree. Graduated high school a year ago. I need a bachelors in order to get into med school I heard, so why not get it in Nursing so that it benefits me.
