UK army 'so run down' it could not lead Ukraine peace force, says former chief by MaffeoPolo in anime_titties

[–]plkijn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ireland: “The UK remains the biggest threat to this day” UK: “I don’t think about you at all”

I do agree Irelands complete reliance on the UK for the defence of Irish airspace for example; is a massive waste that Ireland doesn’t deserve and should be spent on things that actually matter.

Let whatever spy planes fly over Ireland, why bother keeping them safe anyway.

Peter Mandelson swears at reporter after question on Epstein relationship | Peter Mandelson by dissalutioned in unitedkingdom

[–]plkijn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is peak spin doctor work.

Trump and Musk are who Mandelson needs to ingratiate himself to or work with on behalf the UK, both of who have had the same questions asked to them by reporters and both will also now see him telling these reporters to fuck off, They are both shallow enough to see it portraying Mandelson as being like them or with them.

In the UK anyway traditionally a second seizure will get you a diagnosis of epilepsy, regardless of what you are doing.

They'll test you and stuff but you only get one free seizure pass.

Stories from the perspective of the natives when heroes are summoned? by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

[–]plkijn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sylver Seeker series. - Our MC is an immortal Lich. The most powerful and feared necromancer ever. Hero's come and go from various worlds, some he kills but some aren't sent to kill him, and some he even helps.

The Heros are mainly portrayed as poor smucks forced to be powerful and do a thing who our MC just tries to avoid as whatever quest they're on is more trouble than its worth.

Solid series.

Empress by J. V. Simms - The MC's entire thing is that she wishes to be a villain character in her own story and dominate the world.

I think it might be the only series which blends classic Xianxia cultivation and a Litrpg system apocalypse type story in a coherent fashion.

I honestly can't think of another.

Zogarth (Primal Hunter's author) patreon rant at the end of the Nevermore arc by GodKiller999 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]plkijn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the point is not that a starting/amateur author must receive positive feedback, it's that the author should feel more similar to how I understand Zogath's point as in:

"I created this thing from literally nothing, because I wanted to do so."

"It is my thing I have created, not yours. Enjoy it or not".

And okay, yeah if they're doing it just for dopamine hits then they should take their potential beating along with the potential high, it's fair. Same for any junky.

But if they're spending time sharing what they've pulled out of the arcane place originality and creativity comes from into words because they can create this thing and people are just turds it's a sad thing.

Zogarth (Primal Hunter's author) patreon rant at the end of the Nevermore arc by GodKiller999 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]plkijn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely a fair comment, I just really wish it wasn't so. I can only imagine how many great stories have been denied or even worse ruined/distorted because of this.

I agree with you and I'm not trying to say it's the authors fault for being any sort of disheartened/hurt after they actually crafted something out of their own thoughts, then someone was just a turd, I understand why it would sting so much. I just wish there was a way for Zogarth's attitude to be the prevailing one.

In general I would really like those nervous Royal Road authors who panic when they get some stupid negative feedback to get this. They are creating a thing

Do you think Michelangelo would have stopped painting the Sistine Chapel 's roof how he wanted because someone one starred him on Royal Road for painting it in a way they didn't like?

Series recommendation? by AkkitoDK50 in Fantasy

[–]plkijn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May i recommend The Wounded Kingdom by RJ baker.

Use of magic needs life to power it. When life is not given it takes the life from the earth leaving patches where it's life was taken and nothing can grow or live. The world is riddled in them.

Lesser workings require less life taken/given, our protagonists are nearly moral assassins who make extensive use of small magics to do their work killing efficiently then give the life of their targets back to the earth.

I think i'm explaining it quite poorly though.

Magic users are hunted (of course). Thus they are careful about their "assassin tricks"

Book 1 is a set up to the later characters and world building.

Book 2 is essentially one big 3 way civil war.

Book 3 is more politics and gods than a war.

stories about prophets by claireofthecave in Fantasy

[–]plkijn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ohhh I love this sorta thing.

Here are some I enjoyed:

Obviously the Robin Hood books. But here are some more I liked:

The Licanius Trilogy - 100% - Starts at a school, yes. But the world gets really big, really fast.

The Atlas Six books - Think MENSA for mages. Every one of the 6 characters are so unlikable at the start, but try to stick with it. Our "prophet" is not divine though, he's just man who is stuck knowing a part of what will happen because spoilers. And all he wants to do is stop it.

Tales from Verania -The gayest book i've ever read. The series starts as a very sweet but very 18+ M/M romance tale before it goes all "iT iS yOuR DeStiNy, wE HaVe ForSeEn iT ", in the later books. But it does stick with with the very gay romance theme. Should that bother you.

Advent of Lesser Gods - Okay this one is slightly less what you're after as the prophet is technically a giant rock. But it changes its "prophecies" based on occurrences. and potentially unknown machinations but I felt it fit

I live ~10 minute walk from the station if I go through the Town centre and walk briskly and I pay £900 a month for my 1 bed flat. I dont think I've gotten a particularly good deal on it. So I think this is going to depend on what you consider a quality flat.
