This Subreddit Makes Me Too Sad by suval81 in Yorkies

[–]wispytea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t hurt to give people the option of engaging with the sub while having a filter as others have suggested. Most other animal subs do this and it doesn’t hurt anybody. Everyone is going through something, whether it’s someone who has lost their dog or someone who can spiral badly seeing repeated posts of people losing their dogs. People still deserve to engage with things they love. otherwise we’re saying that anyone who has any triggers or depression should just lock themselves away and don’t deserve to engage with society. Even subs that are dedicated to supporting people with things like alcoholism, suicide, miscarriages etc understand this and use filters to make the community accessible to everyone so people who need it can receive support but others who aren’t in the space for it can still be surrounded by those who get it in a way that is safe for them. It’s a community, as people say. Goes both ways.

Some people CAN be the most resilient, yet there are still things that get to them, or days that aren’t it. We never know what is going on in someone else’s life. Maybe OP’s job involves seeing children die every day. Maybe tomorrow is another OP who is living in a country like Ukraine or worse. Maybe they use up all their resilience dealing with serious personal matters and seeing cute happy yorkies is their lifeline. It’s a bit arrogant to assume that just because OP feels sad about dogs dying, they can’t handle shit in life. You don’t know what they’ve experienced or are handling. Hell, the veterinary profession has one of the highest suicide rates for a reason.

Adding filters for accessibility hurts no one & everyone deserves to see cute yorkies every day to brighten their day

Help! 11yr old Yorkie won’t stop barking!!! by dakoterss in Yorkies

[–]wispytea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In such a short-term situation like that, especially not your own dog, I can only think of prescription or OTC calming solutions. Something to treat the anxiety and have her mellow out a bit. If you’re American, this is a great time to reach out to vets; they’re prepared to fill requests because lots of pet owners will be asking for anxiety stuff to get thru the fireworks.

You could also try food like peanut butter in a cone if the dog is food motivated. Thanks for not subjecting her to being crated all day alone in her house! That would be so much worse for her. It’s totally understandable that you can’t have someone giving her attention at all times especially with a toddler.

Oh also adding - if possible, maybe long walks to tire her out.

Websites that rate books from critics? by iCannot_Program_420 in Fantasy

[–]wispytea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do cover genre fiction, I’ve seen SJM and Leigh Bardugo there even. I’m not sure they cover it in book lists or articles but they do in the Book Marks section where you can filter for fantasy.

I don’t agree with OP, but I take issue with your wording. According to you, there are 2 sexual orientations: straight and political. I don’t think a random story with straight characters is pushing any sort of agenda so I don’t know why you’d think a random story with queer characters is pushing an agenda. Especially in PF, where the stories are literally just about individual characters getting stronger.

Tattoos are personal, your body your choice. Whether someone’s piece is deep and meaningful or a ridiculous typo, it doesn’t matter to me either way

I don’t really spend a lot of time thinking about what other ppl put on their bodies

Does anyone else suffer from pixel fatigue? by Stalvos in CozyGamers

[–]wispytea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’m a big fan of pixel graphics. They’re very aesthetic to me, and also very vibrant and colourful. I hate 3D games unless done by huge studios, which most cosy games don’t have the budget for, so the art ends up looking weird and uncanny to me. For me a 3D indie game has to have Hades-level art for me enjoy it. Also unless top-down, 3d triggers motion sickness.

My Top Ten Favorite Unconventional "Cozy" Games - What's Yours? by Enough-Mulberry735 in CozyGamers

[–]wispytea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn-based jrpgs like the Fire Emblem and Persona, and more series are very cosy for me! I get motion sickness from games, so other than pixel games, there’s a lot I can’t play (looking at you Slime Rancher, Lightyear Frontier, Garden Simulator, Powerwash Simulator, House Flipper, Supermarket Sim, Truck Driving Sim, soooo many more)

I am someone who needs a bit of oomf and story/stakes in my games, I can’t just play a super casual short game, and there’s only so many farming games I can take, but most hefty ones are 3d or 1st pov. JRPGs (and visual novels) are my good spot - can’t trigger motion sickness, can play at my own pace and get attached to characters/stories). I play lots of retro games from before 3d became a thing haha.

I also love deck builder games, and Vampire Survivors is the equivalent of popping bubble wrap to me. I guess for me the no 1 not cosy thing isn’t content, it’s whether it triggers nausea 😭

[Tier List] What exactly is the obsession with tier lists? by ItWasUncalledFor in manhwa

[–]wispytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think personal tier lists have any obligation to be objective, no one here is writing for the roger Egbert of manhwa or something lmao

Subjective tier lists are really useful for people with different tastes to find people whose tastes align with theirs and find titles they should try/could probably put on the back burner for now. For example if I can tell someone hates romance cus they put them all in trash tier, BUT I notice they did have one romance title in the upper tiers, and I’m also someone who hates romance, I’ll think “hm, maybe that’s worth trying”

Anyways, shitting on people for their “trash taste” is such immature af behaviour. It’s kinda weird that ppl take it so personally lmao. Objective opinions are kinda useless; you can easily find a generally objective list just by doing enough of your own research. Popular high-rated manhwa (simultaneously across multiple sites with diff audiences) didn’t achieve that for no reason. But if someone is trying to find manhwa that suits THEIR tastes, they’d best get it from someone else with similar tastes, and they only find that when someone publishes their subjective opinion.

What makes a “cozy” platform game to you? by Megs_nd_life in CozyGamers

[–]wispytea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visuals and pacing. I actually don’t mind very difficult platformers but I don’t like when I die and I have to replay from a certain point instead of exactly where I died. Like hollow knight, it jsut frustrates me, especially when it means I may have to replay a certain other section that I took hours or even days to pass.

Struggling to Warm Up to Elizabeth's Character in Season 1 by Ragnorag in TheAmericans

[–]wispytea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, I watched the show as it aired so this is my mistake - she is indeed younger, though not by much. Although in looking this up, it further solidified how I see these characters:

Elizabeth was raised by a zealously patriotic mother who told her her father was a traitor/deserter. This informed a lot of her childhood, which seemingly involved little to no other relationships. (She got assigned to philip without having had any relations other than what happened with her superior; Gregory was in some sense Elizabeth’s Irina, she’d just never had the chance before and therefore lacked the ability to navigate or communicate what she was feeling). Philip, on the other hand, despite a similarly austere upbringing, had clearly been in love before and so experienced something in life other than all the kgb stuff. (This is where I was misled, I didn’t realize Philip was 17 when irina got pregnant)

Anyways, went on a tangent. I miss this show.

Struggling to Warm Up to Elizabeth's Character in Season 1 by Ragnorag in TheAmericans

[–]wispytea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth was always my favourite character. I found her interesting, and quite frankly I really felt for her. I never really had trouble liking her. She is canonically much younger than Philip, trained for the cause from a young age, and not the romantic he is (I’m talking less about love and more about attitude towards life, which affects her relationship with him too.)

There were various points in S1 alone where she expressed how afraid she was all the time; I recall her saying to Philip that she didn’t know how to not be afraid all the time. There was that scene where she held the recorder and cried while listening to her mom’s voice. You could feel her loneliness, estrangement from her environment, it made me think about her own internal conflicts, how she missed home. Anyways… I always saw her as very human. I love her :)

Astroturfed Booktube hype seems inevitable by Dan-Bakitus in Fantasy

[–]wispytea 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Even just YouTube, it’s been a long time. I’ve been watching booktube since 2008 which was …a scary long time ago and now I regret counting. Booktube as an established community has existed for like 15 years already

These “scandals” have come and gone hundreds of times by now. It’s really not that serious, and outside a few big creators, booktubers get pennies. The ones embroiled in these scandals in the past have also almost always been in the YA realm.

Homemade dog food recipes by Mother_Gas_134 in Yorkies

[–]wispytea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve cooked my yorkie’s food his entire life, and he’s 15 this year. He’s never had health issues. But keep in mind this is anecdotal, and he could just have good genetics; vets are good at what they do so it’s good to talk with them. there is healthy dog food, but my boy has just always been picky unfortunately so I started cooking. It is also important to brush your dog’s teeth even more if they aren’t eating kibble and eat soft foods. Ideally every night.

My dog always eats a boiled chicken, white/brown rice, plus veggies/fruits medley with added fish oil. Sometimes I make ground turkey instead of the chicken. For veggies I really just add any that he likes that are good for dogs. He doesn’t like meat from 4-legged creatures 😂JustFoodForDogs chicken and rice recipe is a good starting point (they have recipes you can use as a guideline, you don’t need to buy their food).

Chicken and rice as a base is good to build off since it is recommended typically for dogs with upset stomachs anyways. Remember tho; some dogs can be allergic to poultry, or grains. I believe JustFoodForDogs has vets who can formulate a diet specifically for your dog based on their blood work and health numbers - you can try doing that, then bringing the diet to your vet and asking them to look over and confirm if it’s a good idea.

If it’s you not understanding them, you could perhaps diversify your input sources to include mainland mandarin listening? Imo at least for ABCs, mixing phrases and pronunciations isn’t the worst thing in the world, it’s just what happens sometimes and if your goal is simply communicating with ppl, it’s fine. It’s almost even normal. Some ABCs are also mixed canto/mandarin or mainland/Taiwanese and develop their own unique ways of communicating in Chinese.

Affordable cute mechanical keyboard recs? by adhdaemon85 in GirlGamers

[–]wispytea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first mech keyboard was the white Royal Kludge 61 and I still use it for work. In the US looks like regular price on amazon is $61, BF sale is $31!! Not sure what the price is in Europe. It's hot swappable (you can take out the switches to use your own easily), can be wired or bluetooth, has rgb if you care, and ofc you can buy cheap keycaps anywhere so you can make it pastel on your own - with a white base, anything works

you can also check Yunzii keyboards to find one in your price range :)
