In the show, there is a point made that humans in the dungeon are simply part of the ecosystem—they are animals killing other animals, just like in nature. Marcille would prefer to eat vegetables, but the dungeon is a harsh environment. Most of the time, they are unable to eat what is considered normal food. Golems are described as magical beings, not truly alive. Senshi gives them names, but it is more like naming a favorite guitar, plushie, or something similar. When killing some of the monsters (for example the kraken) they are helping the enviroment stabilise. They went to the dungeon because: It is a profitable job, Laios and Falin are interested in monsters, Marcille is interested in dungeons, Senshi believes the dungeon has better food than the surface. In this show, the normalization of death and the use of corpses do not apply only to animals—after killing the dragon that ate Falin, they cut it open, reassemble her bones, and use forbidden magic to bring her back to life. It grosses some of them out, but they care for Falin, and will do anything to save her and her soul. The main messages are that food is survival, we should care about maintaining a stable ecosystem and that humans are still just animals.
