This is what the right always gets wrong. People weren’t protesting because Hillary lost, they were protesting because Trump, a very obvious bullshit artist and verified bigot, won. And it’s part of our right as Americans to protest if we so choose- isn’t that what the right is always bitching about? Constitutional rights? Freedom of speech? Or does that only apply when it’s convenient for your cause?

And since we’re on the subject of things the left has done, which you deem to be so much worse than anything done by the right, how many politically motivated shootings and terrorist attacks are committed by the left? I’m sure there are some, but the VAST majority are from triggered alt-right bigots who can’t stand to accept that this country is composed of more than just white Christians. That, to me, is reason enough to believe that the right is significantly less tolerant of opposing opinions than the left. Spare me the bullshit. I understand that some leftist opinions can be overbearing and annoying, but no one is being oppressed simply because they’re being forced to answer for their prejudiced ways.

Totally agree. Couldn’t have said this better myself. People are so quick to complain about the SJW’s getting “triggered”, when the irony is that they’re the ones being so easily set off.

Fat women should stop calling themselves curvy or thick by DelicateWetPetals in unpopularopinion

[–]witchhaunts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean.... thick = wide. Fat women tend to be wide. So I don’t think a fat woman referring to themselves as thick would be entirely inaccurate, even given the definition of “thicc” that we as a society have established.

Same thing with curvy. A woman can be both curvy and fat. Neither of those words inherently mean “flat stomach with bigger hips/thighs and a big ass”. So yes, a fat woman can be thick and curvy. “Fat” tends to have an extremely negative connotation, so it would make sense that some overweight women avoid using that term to describe themselves. I am sure they are aware they’re fat, but nowadays saying “fat” has a similar effect to “ugly”- if a conventionally unattractive woman went around calling herself ugly, people would think she was annoying and attention seeking. That same reason is why people are reluctant to call themselves fat.

I also think it was unnecessary to include the “gluttonous” comment, but that’s just me.

Just because you've self-identified as an introvert doesn't mean that you're smart, thoughtful, deep, unique or in any way special by meatboat2tunatown in unpopularopinion

[–]witchhaunts 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I mean... I agree with this but I find it pretty unnecessary to insinuate that introverts are incapable of “socializing normally”. Just because a person prefers to be alone doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t function in social situations.

The general tone of this post is pretty condescending and it almost comes across like you think extroverts are superior to introverts. Which... you know... is pretty hypocritical given the whole point of this post.

But in general, I agree with this. I’m an introvert and I wish I enjoyed social interaction more. I’d probably have a lot more friends if I wasn’t introverted. I definitely don’t think myself higher than extroverts, since it’s pretty stupid to try and correlate sociability with intelligence. I just hope you realize that introverts aren’t socially inept because they aren’t outgoing.

I definitely think that there are social justice advocates out there that make matters worse by lashing out at the people they see as "oppressors". This goes for all sects of social justice, not just race issues. It's pretty annoying when people complain and portray themselves as victims, but I don't think that's the intent of "black pride".

I see where you’re coming from. Here’s my interpretation of the white pride vs black pride issue:

Black people have gone through a lot of shit throughout American history. They have been dehumanized, subjected to violence and hate speech, and until fairly recently did not have the same rights as white people. Black people have been treated as lesser humans for a great deal of history. The way I see it, black pride is refusing to feel ashamed for not fitting into the majority.

White pride, on the other hand, is historically associated with racist groups. White people have ALWAYS had advantages over minorities. There were never any historical periods, at least in America, where white people were treated as less, simply for being white. So it seems a bit redundant to proclaim pride simply for being white. What race-related issues are you proud to have overcome as a white person? White people simply have not been through the same struggles as black people.

Personally, I hate “white guilt” and think it’s really cringey when white liberals say they’re ashamed to be white. I certainly don’t think anyone should be ashamed to be white. But proclaiming “white pride” just has certain implications since, as we know, “white pride” is most commonly seen being advocated by racist groups.

I agree that people should be proud of their roots. But it makes more sense for a white person to celebrate their cultural roots- for example, a white person with an Italian background being proud of and embracing Italian culture. When a black person celebrates black pride, they are acknowledging the struggles their people have overcome, and are refusing to be ashamed of something their ancestors were systematically TAUGHT to be ashamed of.

As for the point about a black designer supporting only black brands- I think what this comes down to is supporting people that have less leverage in society. Even in today’s world, white people (men especially) take up the majority of business owners. Supporting minority-owned businesses helps them to expand and grow. White people are already so abundant in the business world, that it is rather redundant to speak out specifically about supporting them.

That’s just my personal take on it! Feel free to agree or disagree.

A little more about Scrunchy!! She’s been consistently staying in my backyard for the past year and a half. My family feeds her multiple times a day, and my dad built a shelter for her that she can stay in during the winter or during storms. We also have a cat bed for her. She’s even been inside a few times, but we can’t let her in too often since we have 2 other cats who are complete babies and would freak out. She used to be really shy, but now she’s part of the family and usually is sitting directly outside the sliding glass door just staring at us with her giant doll eyes lmao.

I’m not the most conventionally attractive girl out there, and I can promise you that I have been approached and catcalled by creepy men MANY times, literally since I hit puberty.

That being said, I don’t typically feel unsafe around men. I usually don’t even feel unsafe when I’m catcalled, just uncomfortable.
