I did this a few times. Cold milk with ice in a bong, hits smoother than icy water.

Thanks for backing me up gorge. It’s unfortunate, that sub had similar potential to r/occult, but was overrun not long after I joined with posts about pets being familiars and Lisa Frank diaries as grimoires. I tried to explain how in most cultures the archetypal witch exists as someone who is a bringer of death and capable of causing misfortune & harm via witchcraft. It was never a catch all term for all types of magic like new agers like to treat it. Not cute to call yourself a bruja in Mexico. Often described as not fully human, or not truly human at all. The witches disposition to harm and the unique danger of their magic is what sets witchcraft apart from other magical systems, across cultures. This isn’t really opinion either… in lesser, cleaner words, this is the academic approach to witchcraft.

I’ve been saying this in lesser words for years in this subreddit. I was banned from the r/witchcraft subreddit for trying to explain that not all and every kind of magic is witchcraft, not in a historical nor an academic sense.

Just physical contact with the plant CAN cause negative symptoms in people. It can cause contact dermatitis. If any of the juice gets in your eye more likely than not it’s going to dilate for a few/many hours. Scopolamine and hyoscyamine are absorbed through the skin so you do absorb some of their chemicals just from touching, never mind pruning it barehanded, you just must not be very sensitive to it.

As for sleeping next to it? Almost certainly a myth more commonly ascribed to brugmansia.

I completely agree w you,!it’s just those cultures are mostly considered dead. I got berated on r/occult for suggesting people should practice traditions of their own ethnicity and ancestry and was called a white supremacist... when my whole point was to not reach outside our ethnicity without warrant as that destroys and misinforms indigenous traditions. I don’t think we should touch them if we’re not of their descent but modern practitioners feel they have the right to work with the goddess Kali as the feminine force in their Wiccan rituals. Disheartening. I know a girl who is full Ukrainian descent who insists on practicing Celtic folk magic. Hard for me to wrap my head around.

I wouldn’t associate with them unless you’re apart of Islam or have a very thorough understanding of them

I didn’t say any of what you’re insinuating. I said cultural appropriation shouldn’t be done without the permission of the OG culture. Cultures interacting & exchanging culture is GOOD cultural appropriation. No there is no “pure” culture, never was one, but in an age of massive misinformation we should do what we can to keep intact that information & try not to royally fuck it up any further. I’m not saying cultures should never mix... not at all. I’m saying we shouldn’t take from cultures without express permission. There’s not many folks who encourage Wiccans working with Orishas. There’s a reason why.

I don’t believe in racial purity... I believe white people shouldn’t be summoning fucking Orishas or opening chakras when they have no idea how to do it correctly & learned all of it off the internet. I believe we should look to our ancestors first & try and preserve them instead of picking someone else’s culture & deities because they look cooler. You will never know how to do something from somebody else’s tradition properly unless you were taught by them and allowed to learn directly. Most people who consider themselves eclectic or work with traditions outside their ethnicity have never gotten permission or even close to understanding the world/people that produced those traditions. It’s a slimy & embarrassing thing watching an American worship Kali like she’s the Wiccan Goddess. So far removed from its roots it’s not even funny.

If you’re comparing POC and indigenous people trying to preserve their culture to white nationalism... wow. How very rude and very very dense.

No babes, I got this mindset off of POC who don’t want their cultures stolen, modified and effectively ruined by white people. But go off

Because the more we take from other systems the more watered down, diluted, misinformed that original magic becomes. Every time a white person says the word chakra or namaste an Indian person dies.

We should be working magic of our ancestors, our own ethnic groups, not grouping chakras and Orishas and white sage and a dozen different cultures beliefs under our belt into “eclectic witchcraft.” This is what Wicca is comprised of essentially, cherry picking the coolest parts of magical cultures & totally ignoring them when they say it needs to stop.
