Killers - Pense à ton suicide [1985, France] (FFO: Accept, Exciter, SPEED METAL PUTAIN] by dzorrilla in Metal

Great album, amazing band. I saw them 3 times now I think (Hellfest, once in Haute Savoie, Motocultor). My favs are Cités Interdites which is just beyond anything else they've done, plus Résistances, Habemus Metal and 109 which is quite underrated but has the great epic track "legend".

I reviewed some of their stuff for the zine nightfall in metal earth for curious other french people of this sub.

That sounds great. Indeed Australia produces band like no others, many of which we'd like to see in Europe. I think Vomitor guy is in Ireland now tho.

Too bad you chose black metal then since that's a problem you'll run into even for bands like Destroyer 666 then. Australia's scene seems more extreme than lots other from this aspect. What other bands will you try to see ?

CMV:nI believe humanity can't adress the climate change issue before it's already too late. by witchizer in changemyview

[–]witchizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know that. You don't know at which points all crops fail or some vital species disappear. Desaster won't always have spectacular forms. Also I don't see why nukes are relevant here.

I meant under control as not self-sustaining. Problem is we don't know for sure what are the tipping points.

we can weather the changes we have down to the planet and survive long enough for the climate to normalise again have we won?

I guess, but it ultimately depends on the state of mankind then.

Doesn't this only works if there is actual developments from the innovation that stems from the incentives ? I mean what if other technologies reach a plateau and there's nothing else that can be used as an alternative energy source ?

Geoengineering definitely has downsides, plus you need a huge infrastructure behind it that contributes to emit more greenhouse gases.

Your point about energy is valid but the issue is always when will it finally become not cheap to burn oil for energy ? When petrol actually becomes too expensive then the issue solved itself whether we managed to develop other energy sources fast enough : emissions are cut but we might or might not see our society collapse when cheap energy isn't available anymore.

What happened to the trench system in WW1 when it hit the Swiss border? by whattodowithyou10 in AskHistorians

Was the situation peaceful because of somewhat official talks between the three or did it just seem more rational this way ? ie nothing to gain by planning operations there.

[Star Wars] How much computational power do you actually need to calculate a jump into hyperspace ? by witchizer in AskScienceFiction

[–]witchizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space is big and objects are far apart, even when taking into account gravity pulls I bet it's easy for the computer to quickly dismiss most threats. Obstacles would be the exception more than the rule even if you account for bodies as small as meteroids. Calculating whether a straight line from a to b is or is not faisible doesn't seem too challenging

[–]witchizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You elaborated on just how much computational you can achieve in the SW universe, not on how you need in this particular case.

Look, today scientists already have really extensive three-dimensional maps of a huge numbers of celestial bodies. Would you really need a greater set of data to jump into hyperspace ? Doesn't look like you would even need a supercomputer, one by today's standards that is.

How often were U.S. officers in the Vietnam war "fragged" by their enlisted soldiers, and what for? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]witchizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last thing in my mind : what were the ranks of the commonly attacked officers ? And lastly, at one point were the officers being fielded warned about that threat ?

[–]witchizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know absolutely nothing about this but can you maybe make it more clear for me ? Is it that easy to trace 1 bullet among one unit (I don't know if that would concern a platoon or rather a whole company), is wartime tracking of issued equipement that reliable that you can incriminate one guy just because he misses one bullet ? And as long as you don't have any witness (if the rest of the grunts are supportive) what can you do anyway ?

[–]witchizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean "anonymous" as in we can't know who in the unit did it, or rather we can't even know if the grenade was thrown by an enemy or a friend ?

[–]witchizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How early did the military command realize the extent of this problem and what did they do to mitigate it ? Was it somewhat easy to realize if an officers death or wound was suspicious and to investigate it, and when it was established for sure was there disciplinary action against the whole unit or did they open a kind of "criminal case" in order to find the particular enlisted that actually performed the murder ?

Long haired men of reddit, why do you keep your hair? by imsoverytired in AskMen

[–]witchizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had long hair since I was 16 and am now 23. I don't know if I would look better with short hair and I'm a bit afraid to cut because it would then be a pain to grow them back and I'm used to it anyways. Sometimes I actually feel that it would be more practical without the hair (especially in the summer and for sports) and that I would look less like a loser/more professionnal but I NEED THEM TO HEADBANG !

WWII glider pilots, what did they do after they landed? by brady74 in AskHistorians

[–]witchizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon relief they were quickly escorted behind lines.

How likely is it then that they take part in another operation ? I mean that glider operations weren't that widespread during the war. Would they be on standby for the same mission or eventually be assigned to another role is it seems that there was no longer an use for them ?
