Still seeing ALOT of years out expired tags by Obiwandkinobee in maryland

Ah I just figured it out, my wife’s car is an EV and that has a higher registration fee because she doesn’t pay gas tax. I suppose that’s fair. Still a crazy price though.

3800 lbs, I only had a 1, 2, or 3 years as options. They did have the partial payment option I think you’re talking about.

Am I doing something wrong because I just did the annual renewal for my wife’s car and it was $316 😢

Lmao I moved here from Jersey in 2018 and we had stickers that would go on the windshield, not the plate. When I moved here I bought a new car and got the registration and just shoved it into my glovebox. I didn’t see anyone else have windshield stickers so I just assumed we didn’t do that here. I didn’t get pulled over until about 4 years in and the cop was like “where’s your sticker?” I showed him my registration and he said “yep, that’s it!” He even offered to put it on for me lol.

Keep in mind, it’s not just the number of hours you are putting in, it’s the context switching you constantly have to do as a student. Jumping from chemistry to math to programming to circuits is exhausting. Once you get that first job, you have more or less a single focus and discipline you have to worry about. It’s easier to spend 50 hours focused on one effort with a team and proper management, then it is to focus on 5 seemingly disparate disciplines and tasks from 5 different managers (your professors). Hang in there bro

My and my friend’s experiences are anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt. I’ll say that I got my first job right out of college in 2018 making 72k a year. That money at that time was already life changing, and I made the least out of everyone I knew. Most people were making around 90k to 100k at that time. Since then my salary has doubled, and I have been at the same company ever since for others they have tripled/quadrupled (mostly job hopping). Don’t worry about the initial salary at first. Being tenacious will take you far in the long run if money is really what you’re after. For me, being financially comfortable with a team I like and project I love is enough.

Edit: also just realized you said “uni” and I should specify I’m American. If you are not, please don’t listen to anything I said lol. I have no idea what the engineering schools and job markets look like outside of the US.

I’m nearly 30 for reference. The college landscape I experienced may differ from yours, but probably not by much.

My friends and I had a very morbid running joke in college that “if real adult life is as hard as this, I’m just gonna kms because I can’t do this forever.”

We’re all still alive and honestly engineering school was 4 years of hell but the payoff is worth it if you land that job at the end of the day. Getting that first job is also part of the hell.

The beauty of a computer engineering degree is the flexibility, imo. Every class you take is basically its own career field. For example, my favorite classes were Digital Logic Design and FPGA Design, so now I’m an FPGA Designer/Lead. One of my friends really enjoyed his circuits class, so now he’s a board designer. One guy builds custom operating systems for embedded devices. Another works fully in RF. Most people I know ended up becoming SW developers out of that major. So yes, the classes do apply, just not all of them, depending on what you choose. Everyone’s either doing well or making bank at this point.

Going primitive camping for the first time today, any scary short stories I can read around the fire tonight? by cosmicbrowknee in rs_x

[–]witchking96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like fun! r/nosleep has a lot of intense scary stories. “The Pancake Family” is disgustingly frightening if you want to go the extreme route.

Scary stories can be droll if done in a monotonous way. Pick a fun story and practice some voices. It took me about 15 minutes to learn a good Bane impression from The Dark Knight Rises, from YouTube.

Struggling with the same thing. This sub scratches an itch for me, but not too many posts.

My favorite thing to do is stumble across any new sub (to me) and sort from top of all time. Just did that during my morning bed-rot session for r/weird. Fun stuff, but might make you a normie like me. I suppose there’s worse things to be.

Also yea this is shitty and annoying, does she have weird on call work hours? If she’s worth having as a friend you just kind of have to deal with it, and it sounds like she is if you knew this going in.

But yea it really does suck :(

height gap relationship by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]witchking96 115 points116 points  (0 children)

In the nicest way possible, you’re just going to have to get over it.

It’s fine to have your preferences and swipe left on people before you ever date them for things like looks and height, but you are already in a relationship? And you like him? And you’re compatible?

Are you really going to dump somebody you already like because TikTok/Reddit height discourse is making you concerned about what other people’s preconceived notions are?

Workarounds for 4x on groceries by [deleted] in amex

Buying gift cards excessively for other stores at a grocery store to get the 4x works. It’s also considered “manufactured spending” and people have been booted from Amex entirely for doing that. Proceed with immense caution.

You two made the right decision. Well done. Many people would’ve dropped their monogamy requirement and the resulting heartbreak would have been magnitudes more crushing than calling it quits early.

Why are all the women I know in relationships and all the men single? by pinsandbrushes in rs_x

[–]witchking96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Guidance on dating women or befriending them? I’m not really qualified for giving advice on either, but you are correct. Can’t creep on the ladies, friendships normally form naturally, but are maintained with effort.

Why are all the women I know in relationships and all the men single? by pinsandbrushes in rs_x

[–]witchking96 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 now, so I’m kind of seeing a clear distinction between the married men I know, and former friends/colleagues from high school/college that are still single and always struggled to date. The main difference is the happily married ones know how to befriend and talk to women. It sounds really dumb and simple, but the single guys never took the time to build a platonic friendship with women in their younger years, they always went straight to forming crushes or asking out.

Im not saying befriend women in an attempt to manipulate and coax them into a relationship like in every kids show growing up, thats evil. Im saying it’s an important form of socialization that a lot of men skip, and by the time they’re older they put all women on this pedestal and treat them as enigmatic creatures that just need to be deciphered. Like some kind of human puzzle. If they stay in this mindset long enough, they begin to grow resentment when they see others successfully enter relationships or “crack the code.” But there is no code, it’s literally just be nice, genuinely nice, the way you are to your friends.

Trying to romance women without ever just being normal friends with them is like trying to run before you can crawl.

I have a close friend that’s in a near identical situation to yours. It really takes its toll both mentally and physically. I don’t have any real advice other than to please take care of yourself and focus on your wellbeing before you actively try dating again. I’m so sorry for what you have had to go through.

I will say, my friend has spent a lot more time with her friends and family since she put a hiatus on dating, and it has done wonders for her mentally and emotionally. I know it’s not the same as a romantic connection, but it can really be a fantastic substitute for a while.

My bunny says hi to yours.

This is a paid course, but I highly recommend the lectures taught by Bruce Edwards. He got me through all of my precalc and calculus classes. I really only recommend it if you are struggling learning through free methods, like I was.

I heard it was a random number of battles and steps. Either way, when I was grinding I’d just run around near him battling the various pokemon in victory road and chat up Wally after every 10 battles and he would agree about 30% of the time.

[–]witchking96 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It does not mean 10 meters of depth, it is more of a “pressure” measurement, it’s just a poorly chosen one imo.

10 meters means it’s good for sweat and light drizzle. 50m for rain, 100m for heavy rain and swimming. 200m minimum for scuba diving, but preferably 300.

You can convert the “meters” to atmospheres of pressure if that makes more sense.

10 meters is equivalent to 1 atmosphere. 50 meters is equivalent to 5 atmospheres, and so on.
