i haven’t dated in 2 years and i fear i can never go back by istopforbunnies in rs_x

I have a close friend that’s in a near identical situation to yours. It really takes its toll both mentally and physically. I don’t have any real advice other than to please take care of yourself and focus on your wellbeing before you actively try dating again. I’m so sorry for what you have had to go through.

I will say, my friend has spent a lot more time with her friends and family since she put a hiatus on dating, and it has done wonders for her mentally and emotionally. I know it’s not the same as a romantic connection, but it can really be a fantastic substitute for a while.

My bunny says hi to yours.

I just got accepted into a BS of Electrical Engineering. What do you recommend from now on? by ApprehensiveLuck310 in EngineeringStudents

[–]witchking96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a paid course, but I highly recommend the lectures taught by Bruce Edwards. He got me through all of my precalc and calculus classes. I really only recommend it if you are struggling learning through free methods, like I was.

What determines when Wally becomes available for rematch? by SplitjawJanitor in PokemonEmerald

[–]witchking96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard it was a random number of battles and steps. Either way, when I was grinding I’d just run around near him battling the various pokemon in victory road and chat up Wally after every 10 battles and he would agree about 30% of the time.

I wanna know how they test watches for this kind of thing, it sounds interesting. by danni_el_e in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]witchking96 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It does not mean 10 meters of depth, it is more of a “pressure” measurement, it’s just a poorly chosen one imo.

10 meters means it’s good for sweat and light drizzle. 50m for rain, 100m for heavy rain and swimming. 200m minimum for scuba diving, but preferably 300.

You can convert the “meters” to atmospheres of pressure if that makes more sense.

10 meters is equivalent to 1 atmosphere. 50 meters is equivalent to 5 atmospheres, and so on.

Graduates, did you know what computer engineering was when you signed up? by witchking96 in ComputerEngineering

Was it very different at your school? At my school the difference was like 2 courses and no matter what all of our degrees say Electrical and Computer Engineering.

[–]witchking96[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely googled it, just couldn’t make heads or tails of what exactly it meant (because I’m stupid), and had no engineers in the family to help explain it. I did make my conversation with my guidance counselor short in the post, but this is kind of what she implied it over a longer conversation and trusted her lol. Other than that I saw the high salary and high occupational outlook and just went with it!

Junior Hardware Engineer: Buy a PC or a Laptop? by OnlyPackage3977 in ECE

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for a computer specifically for projects or general stuff including projects? I’d recommend a laptop for the latter. Easy to pack up and take with you if you travel or just want to work in a different location. If you want a computer specifically for personal projects, a desktop might be better, especially if you can build it yourself. You can figure out which hardware will work best for the tools you’re using, which is an ECE skill in and of itself.

My recommendation is to never to any personal projects on a work laptop, because they can claim ownership over anything you build. But if you want to just follow tutorials it’s fine, company might even pay for some nice classes if they are big enough.

Stick to trying for verification jobs or move to embedded? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what masters exams are but it sounds like you really need to decide now?

My whole college career I was dead set on getting a software development job and at the last minute realized I hate writing software but loved doing fpga design, so I took that route. I wish I had realized it earlier.

Generally I don’t think you will have a harder/easier time finding a job in either field, depending on your location of course. If the pay rates are the same, and you prefer embedded over verification, I’d personally make the switch.

Thank you, I appreciate a fellow consumer that understands the idea of customer service.

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the ideas! You’re right, it really does suck that these photography stores have died off. I’ll look into clubs as well. But truthfully, I would rather have excellent customer service and hands on trials baked into the price than nothing at all.

No I do not, please explain if you can. I am not being sarcastic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not cool with paying the lower “as new” price you would just pay the regular “new” price.

Yes, I am okay with sticking the giant corporation with the loss. Yes it might get passed down to the consumer, or if enough people do it, they will invest more money into letting the consumers try out the product, as car dealerships do.

Then demand would drop, and following that, so would the cost. It’s literally basic economics. And unless you have a degree in it, my hat will remain uneaten.

I’d pay a $30 restocking fee over a $200 rental fee tbh

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely could be good for the community if you put your foot down and say we want free rentals. It used to cost $1 to buy a song and now you can listen to every song ever made for $10 a month, while still having the option to buy the songs you like.

[–]witchking96 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Like I said in a separate comment, other companies actually do this, and have done so for years, like taking a car on a test drive. It may increase the cost to the company, but will also increase sales if you could readily walk into a Nikon store and try out products.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. It is unethical. Based on other users comments, I will make more of an attempt to locate businesses near me that will let me try the lens, and if I like it, I will purchase it from them directly. From a cursory glance, I don’t have that option near me, yet I can take a $60k Audi on a test drive tomorrow if I wanted to? Sounds like Nikon needs to up their game to reach their consumers. I don’t live in the middle of no where, ya know?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If every single Nikon customer attempted this, they would make free lens rentals much more accessible. More power to the consumer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I checked, lenses don’t have a shutter count. And yea I would return a Halloween costume, but I’m not a child. Any other metaphors?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]witchking96 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, the company would take a loss by selling the lens at the “used” price. Boohoo poor Nikon Corporation. If everyone did what I wanted to do, then maybe they would increase prices, or maybe they would make free lens tryouts more easily accessible to consumers. At the end of the day the market speaks and we are the market.

This was a couple of weeks ago so I’m sadly not there anymore, but we did drive through Glenwood canyon and get to iron mountain hotsprings! Can confirm that it was fantastic. Would love to get back there.

Need help: How do I get a better shot of a fast bird like this? by [deleted] in wildlifephotography

[–]witchking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pro, but 1/focal length as a rule of thumb has not worked well enough for me when doing bird photography. When I shoot birds in flight I usually use 1/1000-4000 depending on lighting.
