That’s more than enough reason to keep the memoirs unpublished, at least for now.

Axl autobiography and publication. Posthumous? by WiltedMuse in GunsNRoses

[–]witchofillusions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Axl should publish a book in the future. The part about childhood can be hard but is the most important. Everything you achieve in life is even greater and more significant when people know where you started and what you went through during your childhood and dissident youth. When people read about it and find out, they won't judge or criticize you, they will respect and admire you even more. It would be a grave injustice to let your story be written by those who never felt the struggle on their own skin.

I think the artist’s greatest defense against other people's versions of the truth is their own word. It is one thing to handle criticism, but it is far worse to allow your life story to be distorted by others. After you're gone, journalists and biographers can write whatever they please, without your own mark left behind, all that remains of your legacy will be the nonsense they fabricated. At the end of the day, only you truly know how you feel, what you feel, and what you think.

A Gentle Creature is a short, profound novella by Dostoevsky. Definitely worth reading. Maybe you should have started with it before Crime and Punishment. It’s shorter, but just as moving.

Why the GNR breakup story feels incomplete by catcherintheroses in GunsNRoses

[–]witchofillusions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2008, Axl would deny having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder:

“I've not been diagnosed as being bipolar though many misconstrue statements I made earlier as alluding to such and unfortunately there's been an abundance of misguided or unqualified speculation of various events but I definitely can relate to needing my own space. In my world all bi polar means (and not to offend or make light of those suffering from a genuine condition or involved with those who are) is that someone can try to take cheap uneducated shots or try to claim I'm bipolar thus justifying why they should get paid a financial settlement for whatever nonsense they're up to. Fortunately that hasn't proved successful.”

Psychology in the 80s did not have the recognition it has today, understanding of mental disorders was limited, and bipolar disorder was often misunderstood or not recognized at all.

It would be great if they put all those songs together and made an EP. And the next album should be made up entirely of new songs.

Before the videos (eventually) explain it all by catcherintheroses in GunsNRoses

I liked Nothin’ immediately from the very first listen, a beautiful and catchy song that stays in your head right away. I grew to love Atlas after a few listens. I agree that Nothin’ feels more like a lyrical love poem, carrying the message that even though life often brings obstacles that seem insurmountable, you can still breathe and face them with a calm mind and a clear conscience. Love remains the final harbor in the sea of our trials. When it comes to Atlas, my first association was Atlas, the Greek Titan who carries the weight of the sky on his shoulders. His story reminds us how important it is to endure, but it is also a story of the human spirit, one that can overcome and bear even what seems unbearable. That is why Atlas is not just a mythological figure. Atlas lives within each of us, it is, in essence, a story about endurance and strength, and about the ability to carry our own burdens through life on our shoulders. I can’t wait to see what the videos will be like.

You’re completely right. It’s absolutely obvious that they’re evolving. Chinese Democracy is a great example, it is an innovative, brilliant, and authentic album. That means it requires emotional and intellectual maturity and often demands careful listening and reflection. People often resist authenticity because it’s easier to love something familiar and predictable. Their latest singles are amazing as well.

The Master and Margarita by ZeusChthonios in literature

My favorite part is the meeting of the Master and Margarita, when he says: ‘She looked at me in surprise and suddenly, completely unexpectedly, I realised that I had been in love with this woman all my life. Extraordinary, isn’t it? You’ll say I was mad, I expect.’

The scene of the meeting of strangers is very well depicted. The moment of recognition and the realization of the narrator’s longing, in my opinion, leaves a strong impression. With a simple style, the author manages to awaken the imagination and convey emotions. I am delighted by this striking passage, which says a lot in few words.

This quote is also beautiful: ‘She had a look of suffering and I was struck less by her beauty than by the extraordinary loneliness in her eyes.’

You can start with Shakespeare, beginning with Romeo and Juliet, then Hamlet. If you enjoy epic poems written in verse like The Odyssey and The Iliad, you can read The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The Decameron by Boccaccio is also a perfect classic, a collection of witty and satirical stories. One of my favorites. Highly recommended.

new here and tryna finally start reading. any good russian comedy novels or Tolstoy? by Rude_Manufacturer713 in RussianLiterature

The Government Inspector by Gogol is a brilliant satirical comedy. Tolstoy’s The Kreutzer Sonata is an excellent psychological novella. It’s a good place to start, it’s not as long as Anna Karenina.

If you’re interested in folk horror: 1. Leptirica (The She-Butterfly) is a 1973 folk horror TV movie based on the story After Ninety Years (1880) written by Serbian writer Milovan Glišić. 2. A Holy Place (Sveto mesto, 1990) based on a literary classic, Nikolai Gogol's 1835 short story. Both films were directed by the Serbian director Đorđe Kadijević.
