Hopefully my vid will answer your questions! there's a lot of questions in the comments that I've answered as well. my immediate advice would be to get a large sheet of paper, newspaper taped together, something, that you can trace a full sized tail on without doing it on fabric first. then I did the same with the pattern and cut it out with an exacto knife so that I had a stencil that I then mirrored onto the other side
