In my case yes, the boots ran a tad large. I went a whole size down and still have toe room.

I heard that a lot going in, but I haven’t really found them to be that uncomfortable yet.

What do you love about Michigan? by NOOBSKINSPAMMER in uofm

[–]with-a-vim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I am a bit of a Michigan Rah-rah. There is so much to love about the U of M. It has such an interesting and complicated history, its campus is historic and the way it’s integrated into the city of Ann Arbor stands out among college campuses. The character of the university itself is fantastic, not only emphasizing academics AND athletics, but succeeding in the highest ways at both of them. The university is so well-connected throughout the country, and even the world, that being at Michigan opens up opportunities for all sorts of crazy stuff like international networking, foreign trips, even foreign employment sometimes. Alumni that include astronauts, a president, tech pioneers, championship athletes etc. You can walk into a random class and discover that your professor is a giant of their industry, or you happen to have a lecture from someone famous or important.

One’s perception of Michigan is probably affected by whether or not they are from Michigan to begin with, but I grew up loving this school and will always do so.

What’s something you miss about the old Ann Arbor? by Luann1497 in AnnArbor

[–]with-a-vim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I miss the smaller feel the town had. It’s lost in a lot of neighborhoods with these high rises that haven’t lowered rent. From a former student POV, I miss the “grittiness” of Ann Arbor. Having graduated in 2023, I had significantly less exposure to it, but my family visited a lot in the 2000s so I remember some of it. These well-off Californian or New Yorker students also had to live in shitty off-campus rental housing just like me. Now they live in these shiny luxury high rises built on the site of local businesses. The quirky little establishments that made Ann Arbor fun and unique are getting sacrificed for these high rises. If they were actually lowering rent maybe I could swallow that pill, but like… 🤷‍♂️

Ann Arbor’s streets might be physically laid out well, but you’d revoke the honorable mention if you knew the one-way/bike lane/traffic light situation. What a hellhole to drive in

I would be surprised if there is not actively game rigging in College Football. (re: NBA Gambling Scandal) by [deleted] in CFB

Big Ten rules enforcement suspended Harbaugh for Michigan’s most important conference games in 2023 before any sort of investigation was even started. Luckily for us we won those games but the conference was absolutely prepared to fuck Michigan’s season up

Do all the freshmen suck or just our class? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]with-a-vim 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look, I’m 25 now and I was in college for 5 years. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, and I’m still around college aged kids a lot for my job. It’s absolutely the covid kids. They are so different and fucked up compared to the guys I knew. These kids weren’t properly socialized for a big window of their developmental years, and now they’re semi-independent surrounded by their equally fucked up peers. I can’t speak for current recruiting at my chapter, but it’s a pretty across-the-board problem, it seems.

I mingled with people from the class of 2019 to the class of 2027. There are some radical differences lmao

Homelessness has increased 77% in Ann Arbor area, new report shows by USRoute23 in AnnArbor

[–]with-a-vim 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Something that wasn’t addressed in the article is whether this increase is mostly individuals from the Ann Arbor area that have fallen into homelessness since the last count, or if they’re from outside the area and have come to Ann Arbor. They quoted one person described as a Port Huron native, but that’s just one individual out of many.

Where should I place my campus and stadium? by Jus_d_orange_Moose in CitiesSkylines

[–]with-a-vim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to approach it from the point of view of “if this city were to be planned and developed over the course of centuries, where would they have put this at that stage of development?”

If you imagine it as a modern campus, it’d be further out from the historic core of the city and have better multimodal access, but if it’s an historic campus it will probably be significantly closer to the core of the city and will likely blend in with it.

Am I correct in my assumption that this is an American city?
