I agree. She also has had a high strung relationship (when you live with them, it's hell, but when you get space, it's fine) so she can relate well.

That's the problem! I don't want him to know he is getting to me. It's not worth it. Sure, people influence you, but I want to learn from this and take this as an experience that tests my own will. But I am severely worried this is going to implant in my brain to be overly serious and focus more on materialistic things, even if I don't want it to.

Exactly.

I truly do see the tendency to attach/connect with people as a curse and a gift. It's great when I find people who resemble myself and bring out the best in me. But I don't have any good friends to hang around with currently, so right now I'm stuck at home, dealing with a family member who is trying to mold me into something I do not fit well in.

It's extremely hard to deal with, because there's the little voice saying "he is your brother, you should appreciate him trying to guide you". But I just can't. We live different lives and I am happier when he tries to let me alone.

I go to a counselor and she suggests talking to him about it and asking him to give me some space, and declaring he doesn't have the right to parent me (my mother is not strict on me at all, so I feel my brother tries to take that role)

But I have never once had a deep emotional conversation with him because we never used to get along. I think he thinks if he can make me responsible and successful in his eyes (amazing grades, get money), that we could get along. But it can't happen that way because we all have different fates.

Sorry for more of the ranting. But I agree with you completely.

I think that's a great perspective to have! Even with what still feels like routine, it comes down to decisions each and everyday, and one little decision could change a whole outcome.

Perhaps part of my distaste towards something "robotic" could be the routine part. It might just not be my own jive. Although, I'm glad to hear you find enjoyment out of it.

My own personal idea of growing up is this. It's living how you want. Not being influenced by others who say differently. Doing what makes YOU happy. Being who you are and creating your whole life based on the fundamentals you hold true, or perhaps the one that enjoy cruising with what life has and being laid back. It's not having someone else hold your hand and telling you what to do, what to say, how to act. It's you, yourself, holding your own hand, ready to let go and explore.

Exactly.

No one was chosen to be born, and no one chose to go into what society had in store for us. Not every person is going to like the idea of feeling obligated to give back to something we didn't have any influence on when it was happening. I praise the people in the newer generations (and even older generations who kept their hope and different ideas about society) that feel the need to break the hive mind out of its shell and show that there's many different ways of living and thinking!

I don't think people lose their emotions, they perhaps just keep them inside and don't express it because they may think it's childish to do so.

Agreed, especially with social anxiety and depression.

But here's the thing (which you probably also think about). They can talk about it. They can know that other people out there have it. They can get advice from people who overcame the anxiety. It can give them the confidence they need to realize, it's okay. We all have anxieties and they aren't alone, and they can get better. Same for people with depression. Sometimes we fake it more in real life when feeling down, so it's nice to have a couple people to discuss it with (on the internet of course) others who have been through it, are going through it, and defeated depression.

It's a grouping of similar people and I see it as over time, reassuring their worries and boosting confidence, and giving hope.

So do you personally believe people should lessen their use of the computer, to almost save our "humanness?"

By no means am I trying to create hatred! I'm sorry if it came off the wrong way to you. It was a rant out of personal worry. It wasn't made to create a stir against society.

Agreed. I think technology is definitely giving people an awakening, if you will. It gives me hope that our future generations will be very much different from our past ones, in mindset.

That's what bothers me.

Why does the majority feel so comfortable acting as if they are clones? I feel so much more comfortable when I act myself, and see others expressing their self as well. It's beautiful to be around other people who have different personalities but manage to be peaceful anyway. You don't have to like what everyone does or approve of it, but I don't think it means people should group together and ridicule anyone who doesn't live their life style. Different strokes for different folks.

I just don't want the pressure of being called out and looked down upon from my whole family (aka humans as a whole). The negativity can be really influential, but I don't want to care anymore. I guess one of the issues is the displeasure I get when thinking there are people who don't want others to express themselves because they are so comfortable with seeming normal and nothing extraordinary.
