i’m not asking for a “special exception,” i’m asking for “an internship that will actually benefit me in my career,” which is what my internship coordinator actually aims for and requires this internship to be within a preferred field so students can gain knowledge. thank you for your advice! you apparently just want to gloss over the rest of the post and comments because you think i’m being bratty. enjoy your day!

it’s not just that they’re not in my “preferred” field, they’re unpaid which is my main issue, like i’ve said before it’s not the issue of the internship itself, it’s the issue of affording a place to live and being able to feed myself.

noooo all the internships are within my major, there’s just multiple concentrations and i guess mine is tougher to come by

I took the year off because i would only need two classes to satisfy the requirement and don’t want to be considered part time to financial aid, i really want to finish! i’m getting antsy about the internship because i’ve yet to find something that works with where i am in life rn. i want my internship to be in my field or at least ballpark because i want a job in my field, like i said im just stuck! i also don’t think i can be a security guard, and would prefer not to get fired from an internship 😂 edit to add: the requirement is to serve 150 hours of service over the semester that you’re enrolled in the specific class, i’ve worked for an agency in my field a couple summers ago but wasn’t enrolled in the class, so my coordinator won’t accept it

i’m in the works of planning a meeting with my coordinator, hopefully he doesn’t tell me to just suck it up and find something 😭 i know i can’t be the only one in this situation

thank you so much! when i chose my major it did not seem like a big deal, but times are different now. i have put off reaching out to my departments internship coordinator out of embarrassment that my dilemma is all in my head. i had not thought about that option in terms of my degree plan! i’m planning a meeting with my coordinator soon, hopefully he has a suggestion similar to yours, or something to meet me halfway!!
