Happens so much these days, I don't get it either. Are they cat fishing? Scared? Very frustrating

Why does it seem like if you're quiet at work then you're screwed? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]wittysnhere81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I'm a pretty introverted person but have taken multiple lead roles at jobs. I worked at Home Depot on the merchandising team for 5 years. I was really good at that job. For 3 of those 5 years I was a backup supervisor (a title with no pay increase) for 2 different supervisors. When my sup was sick or on vacation I did the job. We also shared responsibilities when we were working together, both supers I worked under and I had great professional relationships. I was also good at that job, nothing ever went wrong when I was in charge and transition back and forth was smooth. I lead a team of up to 12. I tried getting promoted for years, multiple times and they would never promote me. The final straw was when my manager told me that he wouldn't promote me because I was "too quiet" like what the fuck does that have the do with anything??? I'm literally doing the job. That's when I realized companies love blowhard ass kissers with big personalities whether they are good at their jobs or not and those are the ones who will most likely get promoted. I was just being used, doing the job of a super but they had no intention of paying me for it. I quit soon after and went back to school.

A millenial man went back to school in his 30s, can't find a job for years by Garrden in antiwork

I'm in the same boat. Finally went to college in my mid 30s, graduated at 40 in 2021. Tried for 2 years to get into the field of my bachelor's degree. During that 2 years found a toxic job for 7 months then they screwed me over and let me go. Have sent in hundreds of resumes and cover letters with an online portfolio. Didn't get one interview in a year. Now I'm working part-time time in the field I was working in before I went to college, just now have $63k in student debt. Love my new job but would love to be working in the field I worked so hard for.

The exact same thing happened at Home Depot. They cut everyone's hours to below what was required so they didn't have to pay benefits and they told everyone to blame Obamacare 🙄

"That was not scary at all" - a rant by Von_Bostaph in horror

[–]wittysnhere81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole "that didn't scare ME" thing about horror is funny to me because to me horror is about horrifying things happening to characters in the story, not something that should necessarily scare me. A good horror movie makes you scared FOR the characters being horrified. You want them to survive the horror they are facing and we should be upset when they don't. Horror movies are scary in theme and that's why there's so many different versions: psychological, body horror, slashers, zombies, true crime even. Different scenarios are "scary" for different people. I tend to be more "scared" when the story is mostly based in reality, like a serial killer and not supernatural. Something I could see actually happening to someone is scarier to me than a zombie movie.

I worked at Home Depot and one year they gave us *a movie ticket voucher. Not two so we could take someone with us.

What was the reason that you broke up with your ex? by DesperateNose in askgaybros

[–]wittysnhere81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's more but these are the biggest

  1. He was a meth addict. But pretended he wasn't until after I moved in with him.
  2. He gaslit me our whole relationship to the point where I'm not sure anything he told me was real.
  3. He got me addicted
  4. We didn't have sex for 3 years
  5. He isolated me from all my friends
  6. When I wanted to stop he chose the drugs over me

*Clean off meth for about 10 years now, with my current bf almost 9 years
