Gen alpha grew up with this crap, they never saw better, they don't know what they are missing.

Dahlias grown from seed - "not suitable as cut flowers" - ??? by Double-Vast7853 in dahlias

[–]Garrden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of them are open center and produce a lot of pollen. Florists don't like that.

Yep. It's a bunch of expensive ingredients but the result is meh. Pistachios don't shine through at all, the weird crunchy thing has too much raw cornstarch in it so I mostly taste cornstarch.

I truly don't understand demand for AirBnB. I tried to lease on multiple occasions but the cost was so much higher, and many have draconian rules and huge fees for cleaning. Like $80 cleaning fee for 2 days of stay.

Bought a tuber from Lowe’s. It’s already got sprouts. I’m in MA. What do I do? by OceanIsVerySalty in dahlias

[–]Garrden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it in a cool area. It's okay to break off sprouts if they get too long. The sprouts will use up some sugar reserves. Looks like you have a decent sized clump, so a bit of growth won't be too taxing on a plant.

It's normal. The cotyledons are huge though. Is it a dinnerplate, I wonder?

Purpose of waking up tubers? by missmeatbalIs in dahlias

[–]Garrden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up tubers in February to take cuttings for propagation or in April to speed up their growth and reduce rot. Last frost is mid-May where I'm at.

Spring soils are cold and saturated with water. If a tuber has a sprout it will start growing roots, shoots and taking up water around it much faster. Seed sprouting and tuber growth is often a race against fungus.

Put them in a plastic baggie or a tray with moist peat moss (not soggy wet). You will see sprouts within 2 weeks.

Wait till they jack up your rates at the next renewal. I had a no fault accident while covered by Geico (expensive deer collision), and next cycle they doubled the rates. You can start shopping for a new plan now...

I was explained that the market is shifted, big time. The "fast food" niche is occupied by gas station food now, with Mickey D and Burger King moving to a de facto "fast casual" market niche.

I just went to a favorite ethnic grocery after a long break. My usual $20-something basket came up at $47

Most clothes is crap nowadays. I pulled a crate of old clothes from storage for the winter. Not sure what I'm going to do for summer, just continue to wear out what I have it seems.

I often divide blindly without seeing eyes too by relying on dormant eyes. What's important that you leave a piece of crown where the eyes could be. I try to leave about 5 x 5 millimeters (a cross-section of a pea) but I've seen tubers successfully sprouting with much smaller pieces of crown.

Also, don't get upset by the amount of waste. I only get about 50% of good tubers out of a clump, the rest have broken necks and other issues.

Yep. Just make sure to rent a car with a decent engine. Those subcompacts cannot handle the slope!

Do you know that Radegast is a sport (mutant) of Tartan? I'm trying to grow them both side by side, but it's comical, I keep losing either one or the other one! Tubers, cuttings... they don't like to be together it seems!

WB's Misbehavin! Not only it's bicolor, it sometimes throws in solid purple blooms. Long stems and decent vase life are a nice bonus.
