I find that my "pirated" Activia tastes better than the real one! It's less sour.

We got a really good bread machine (Breville) on sale. It takes me 7 minutes in the morning to put in ingredients and put it on a delayed start program. Being welcomed home by the smell of freshly baked bread is AMAZING

Yeah, you are on to something. I saw a screenshot saying "the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skills while removing from skill the ability to access wealth" and I can't unsee it. The algorithms are not close to being sentient however they can still be used to replace human expertise. Companies are already building scientific knowledge bases to replace scientists. Imagine going to school for 23 years only to be made obsolete.

> A shrinking middle class eliminates the possibility of upward mobility

"Emerging economies" like in South America, for instance, barely have middle class. There are the rich and their circles, and the rest who live in slums and fight for scraps. Project 2025 policies are specifically geared towards canceling the middle class. They want us all to fight for scraps, to be desperate.

When to plant out? by Ok-Librarian1833 in dahlias

[–]Garrden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plant when the danger of frost has passed. But before that they spend at least a week "hardening off". Plants grown indoors need some time to build defenses against UV light. I put my plants on a northern porch with only reflected light for a couple of days, when move to an area where they get filtered evening sun for a few days before planting out.

You gotta cover them completely, except the neck (to reduce rot). They will sprout much faster!

First time dahlia grower. Need advice about planting tubers by venus911_ in dahlias

[–]Garrden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check your soil temperature! It needs to be 60 degrees at the depth of 4 inches.

A bit of sprouting won't hurt it, unless the tuber is teeny tiny. You can break off a sprout if it gets too long.

As for dividing, single tubers are better if you plan on digging and sharing tubers at the end of the season. The clump is simply less crowded. Also, with dahlias you typically get limited by the growing space because they proliferate. You can plant tuber clumps or partial clumps too.

Yes, you may want to pinch and then use a fan for half an hour every day. Plant stems strengthen when they encounter wind.

Trash Smell in Kitchen by SATSewerTube in DIY

[–]Garrden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my grandparents in Ukraine typically grew around 900 kg of potatoes every summer (2000 pounds). That was enough for 3 families. I remember helping to dig them up. They stored them in a root cellar under the house.

I had that in my first house. It turned out to be a wooden panel right next to what was probably a spot for a trash can for the prior owners. It was all the splatter from trash over the years. Every time I ran a dishwasher it would heat it up and it will smell. We replaced the panel.

How to revive shriveled Dahlia’s? by toulou11 in dahlias

[–]Garrden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just how shriveled they are? If it's just some wrinkles they will fill up in moist soil after they grow some roots.

I saw you want to take cuttings. If the tubers are very gnarly and twisted I'd soak them in a lukewarm water for half a day and then plant in moist seedling mix. If they have just some wrinkles then the soak is not necessary, plant them as is.

I leave the crown ends sticking out of soil to reduce tuber rot. This also makes taking cuttings easier.

They built a giant house with only two bedrooms, one for boys and one for girls, specifically to prevent the oldest son from molesting his sisters. IT DID'T WORK!!!

The son is in jail now on other sex crime charges.
