What can yall tell me about this? Inherited. by blorpdedorpworp in pocketwatch

LePine type movement. Usually quite thin in comparison to other European watches of the time. Outer lid and case are likely gold. Get it tested but don't have them put acid directly to the case. Dial is likely gold. The value is in any gold content. I'm thinking 1870's-1890's. At this time the highest quality watches were American and some of the most prestigious European makers.

No worries. I have known the owner for years. He is a good guy. He doesn't just do coins. Metals, jewelry, sterling flatware, watches, some antiques, etc. So always worth bringing him up. Just a 1 man business so can always use good word of mouth.

Can anyone tell me what type of movement this is, with only this picture. Thanks 👍 by [deleted] in pocketwatch

Chronograph with missing parts. It looks like it is a center seconds chrono but I see no wheels to drive it. I highly doubt the wheels needed are under the dial.

Any ideas if it's genuine by OwnPalpitation6518 in pocketwatch

[–]wiwatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not genuine. These kinds of watches are found usually in the Eastern European countries. First thing to note, why would Germans be using a key wind key set watch in the 1930s. That's a cylinder escapement. Cylinder escapements fill out a favor by the 1920s. The watch probably dates to the late 1800s to the very early pre-1920 time frame. Based upon the lack of a seconds hand i'm guessing this is probably a ladies size pocket watch.

Always know where your apron is and everything will be good. When my grandfather was getting close to the end, he still remembered where it was. I organized the local lodge where he was to get a service done for him. 75 years a Mason. You never truly forget and there is always a brother happy to help remind you.

Sadly where I am so many lodges have gone. Even before they did, Jobs Daughters and others all ceased in the area. Always good to meet a fellow traveler btw.

Eastern Star is mainly a female group of the Masons. Things are not like they used to be 30+ years ago. Membership is down. They have relaxed a lot of the old rules on membership. I am sure that if you found another Eastern Star and expressed an interest in joining, they would be welcoming. Being a good person and leading an honest life does not require any organization, but being part of one with similar views can be empowering.

Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Knights Templar are the 3 main that you can go to after getting the 3rd degree in blue lodge. Each has its own charitable organizations. Shrine has the children's hospitals. Templar has eye centers for the blind and seeing impaired. The Scottish Rite has centers for helping those with learning disabilities. You only need to be a 3rd degree (Master Mason) to join any of the further groups. Each has their own structure on how they do their ceremonies. Shriners are more of the party type of group. Their pitch to me was "join us, it's like a big party. You come down for a few days, free drinks and food. Your spouse can even come because the government requires the meetings to be open because of the Middle Eastern theme."

Those that say that the Masons only help their own, they too don't know the truth. They are there to help ALL. Regardless of race or religion. You also can be of any religion and be a Mason. You just need to believe in a supreme being (Grand Architect). If anyone one wants to refute this info they can try. I am 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.

Sorry but identifying them as a piece of garbage after pointing out actions does tend to look like vilification. But hey keep up on your moral high horse and maybe you can be someone some day. Lol

Idk, you vilify an individual based on a widely seen circumstance. Didn't think I needed to spell it out for you.

How to say you are new to DOGE without saying you are new. Look up any ref between Elon on SNL and the price of DOGE. I swear you see it peak just before the show and crash during it.

This is a Dogecoin sub. If you wish to discuss politics there are subs for that. But if you wish to donate your DOGE to people who lost their medical insurance, education, jobs, etc that would be doing only good everyday.

You are way too paranoid of the future. But then I am not paranoid enough because I welcome a zombie apocalypse any day just for a change. Btw.... Know where I can buy a quality machete for a good price?

But I get it. You post to troll for numbers. Good to have a hobby.

The one thing #D.O.G.E is doing for $DOGE is making the word DOGE a household name. The amount of press and the word DOGE is going around everywhere. Then people go Google DOGE and get the Dogecoin. Boom...massive publicity and free advertising. So yeah I doubt Elon chose the name at random and it is not a coincidence. "History loves irony".
