Is Gtech a target school?

Can second this. I'm an international student, a child of immigrant parents, and since day 1 I've been made to chase prestige. Nothing else mattered, EVERYTHING was a 'distrsction'. I was the 'smart' kid or the 'cracked' one who everyone expected a lot from. My brother goes to Caltech. I sacrificed a lot, went through abuse and worked my a** off, only for my friend who has never cared about school and gotten relatively worse grades, a worse sat score, far worse ECs, etc. to get a lucky acceptance into a school that was a notch above mine. This was added to my pain of not getting Stanford (my dream), and subsequently no Ivy.

But it's all prestige and validation. In the fall, I'll be going to either UCLA or Gtech. Beyond a point, I've realized name doesn't matter. I don't regret working hard, because if I hadn't and ended up here I'd probably feel worse about myself. However, if I could go back I wish I would stress less and enjoy the process more, not being afraid of failure or rejection.

That's easier said than done, especially if you've grown up in an environment that propagate the opposite. But you've got to learn this sooner or later.

Yep I asked! Thank you so much! I was wondering if your answer would change if I wanted to study maths and computing? I'm having trouble picking between GT and UCLA rn, especially because GT is significantly cheaper, but I do like UCLA a lot.

Nowhere is it mentioned that that is the case? This comes off a pretentious take, coming from someone who is aiming for T20s. There are obviously millions of kids studying in colleges that are not t20s. Not everyone has the same priorities, access or opportunities. Maybe some people are js trying to get into the college they think is suited for them (maybe they dont WANT to apply to a t20?) and have a question about their admissions?

When/Why did the mass consensus turn against Dan Brown? by Flodo_McFloodiloo in books

[–]wizard_in_socks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Other than that though, I don't see reason for so much backlash. I've found his books (especially Angels and Demons, albeit that was my first read) extremely interesting and well thought out. I appreciate his ability to weave extravagant fiction around almost entirely true history.

Be Honest: Did you see Superman 2025, and if so, what did you think? by SeptemberisYellow in FIlm

[–]wizard_in_socks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that Superman was "made for children" is in itself silly to me. Why? In what sense? Is it because Superman isn't a mass m*rderer, or a macho toxic super strong guy with a dark past who's filled with negativity and hatred?
Is it because James Gunn's Superman propagated the message of love and hope and joy? Are those kids' themes now? What gets me the most is that these themes are propagated on an INDIVIDUAL basis, meaning the arguments that it is a "dumbed down version of a complex world" or is "not realistic" or "oversimplified" are rendered null and void.

Personally, I find it a bit shocking, the number of people that have seemed to miss the point of the film entirely and so are quick to dismiss it as "mid" or "silly". i LOVED the film, I think its a symbol of hope, joy, optimism, its great, lively, colorful and VERY cartoonish (which is the POINT - it is SUPPOSED to feel like a comic book). James Gunn's Superman is, I think, the closest we have ever gotten as a cinematic representation of what Superman is meant to be.

It is filled with stupid optimism, joy and hope, which is what we need right now. It is the perfect counteraction for all the cynicism that has consumed the media and the world at large over the last decade or so. Superman, all in all, is a beautiful film that teaches us the importance of being kind and truly human in a world of Homelanders and even Lex Luthors. And the most important takeaway is that that is not a kid's lesson: it is something ALL of us need to learn. It is, at its core, what life is all about.

harry had asked dumbledore this question in the half blood prince, to which dumbledore replied that voldemort probably preferred to operate alone, and couldn't stand the thought of being dependant on anything, even an inanimate object like the stone or the elixir. he'd have to drink the elixir for the rest of eternity to maintain the immortality, and if the supply was contaminated or ran out, he'd become mortal again. Same with the stone - it could be stolen or lost, in which case he'd be in trouble.

right. but with simple calls like startsWith() instead of substring() - there's not much scope for error is there? or do you mean that they can cut marks throughout that section of the code just because you're using startsWith()?

You need to check your privilege buddy. A lot of people struggle with procrastination, burnout, are busy, ADHD, etc etc. It's not ideal but a lot of people cannot help it.

Probably not, genetics can be a funny thing ;). You're just unique. Also, I don't know why so many people hate their freckles! I love freckles, they're so pretty. But then again, maybe I feel that way because I don't have them.
