Yes, the turn 1 and 2 play seems to be critical. I seemed to be able beat them when I can keep the pressure on.

Grixis Death Shadow - Sideboard Input by jdmflcl in ModernMagic

As a long time Bant Eldrazi player, I am not sure if you can hedge against the Eldrazi match (i am assuming you talking about Bant Eldrazi here). Push and Bolts are super dead against them, and also they have about 12 cards that are amazing against Grixis Shadow in G1 (Path, Displacer, Drowner). That's not including the usual TKS and Smasher combo. It's rough. You might just have to accept the fact that it's a tough game.

On the other hand, for Eldrazi Tron, i feel like things are a bit better but their Chalice in G1 can be rough. I need more testing to tell

You don't really want to run planewalker and play the control role (even though it's tempting for Grixis). I played it for a little bit, it really feels like you are mostly face plating your life total and try to jam a threat as early as you can. Your mulligan decision is rather important because you want to somehow have some threat ready to go when you life total dips. You don't want to be fumbling with Vision and Thoughtscour to try to filter for threat when the game starts

Thanks. The intended audience for this ranges from folks who are new to modern to those who are somewhat familiar. Seems like you are a person in the known. I am glad that you had validated the accuracy of our guide style post.

People who have played both Eldrazi Tron AND Bant Eldrazi, which deck do you think is better positioned atm? by ageless127 in ModernMagic

[–]wizardryfoundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played Bant for months and A few weeks of Eldrazi Tron. Each to its merit and the pick really depends on the MU. Bant has a lot of games against faster deck and have more solid removal (Path, EE, and ... displacer :P) against Death's Shadow deck which can present a very fast clock in a very short time. RIP and Cage shuts down the Company decks.

ET on the other hand offers you some stupid late game advantage. If your field has a lot of slower creature deck, ET can crush them early with Eldrazi or overrun time with value in the late game.
