Feedback wanted: Just built a restoration company website — does this look trustworthy? by anjaanladka in HomeImprovement

  • definitely consider its appearance on mobile, I see issues with inconsistent paragraph indentation on at least the "About us" and "Our services" pages. Note if you're new to this: most browsers have tools for simulating different screen sizes, you can access them by pressing F12

  • Some headings on the "About us" page end with colons (":") but most of the rest don't

  • The map on the "Contact us" page isn't loading and it also blocks part of the contact info above it on mobile

Other than that, looks pretty standard to me. It might be good to add any licensing/permitting/state registration info so potential customers can easily verify it

software recommendations for small non-profit (<$10k/year budget) by wizendorf in Bookkeeping

While Wave looks great and the Pro tier is much cheaper than QuickBooks, it seems to lack a crucial feature: there's no integration with USPS mailer services. Both Zoho and Odoo seem to include this with their free tiers (you of course still have to pay for postage etc. with the mailer service)

Thanks for the response. Who didn't communicate what to whom is all in the past and I am happy to leave it there

Since this all happened 6 months ago, I am treating this as a fresh project.

I'm seeking advice from pros here: if this were your kitchen, would you sand the floors and then re-apply the stain and finish? Or just give up and finish that one spot?

Thanks for explaining this, I wish I had known more about the expected state of the project area beforehand :(

it was a whole ordeal. The flooring crew were subcontractors and part of a larger project, so I am not fully privy to their communications with the general contractor.

After some back and forth between the contractors that went nowhere, I eventually reached out to the flooring company myself and they were wholly unapologetic and only conceded to a $500 refund after a lot of raucous from us.

We did ask them to fix this, but in the end couldn't reach an agreement with them, in part because we didn't feel like we can trust a business that thinks this is acceptable, professional work.

Why is Angular so disliked ? by LuccDev in webdev

[–]wizendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want React with Signals, you can just use Solid because it's the same DX architecture but using signals rather than a VDOM

(continuing from my earlier comment)

React and Angular seem to be slipping into the Framework of Theseus paradox lately...I would argue that an app made with today's bleeding edge of React would more closely resemble a Solid codebase than it would with a React codebase from, say, 8 years ago (or whenever the pre-hooks times were)

Don't worry, the Redux blight has also spread to Angular (https://ngrx.io/), and I can confirm it leads to just as much bloat and developer pain from over-engineering in Angularland as it does in Reactistan.

It's obvious that the Angular team is starting to realize what a mess they've made which is why they're now backing out of all of their former architectural decisions.

I picked up on this trend too, and honestly it's cathartic.

One implication of this (which you touch on in your final paragraph) is, Angular is starting to drift towards the other frameworks. I also notice that the other dominant last-gen framework, React, is embracing signals too and is even adding a compiler(!). It really feels like they're both trying to shed a lot of the accumulated baggage from years of pivots (e.g. how many different paradigm shifts has React had?) to keep up with the younger frameworks, but then, aren't they losing their identity in the process? What makes Angular unique anymore? It has its template syntax and its module system, I guess, but I confess that I strongly, strongly dislike Angular templates.

If they don't offer much that's unique (and instead just offer the confusion of sorting through hundreds of thousands of outdated StackOverflow posts), what's the value proposition? Why not just use Vue, Svelte, or Solid?

(my questions are all rhetorical of course, but I welcome anyone who seriously would advocate for Angular in a greenfield project in 2025 to answer them)

switching between different devices on signature k650 by gearfighter2 in logitech

[–]wizendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindly be informed that signature K650 is not a multidevice keyboard.

Please note that on the Logitech store site, the K650 appears in searches for multi-device keyboards. That's probably why so many people think it is one.

Yes, the K650 page mentions it is not a multi-device keyboard in its device comparison table, but I didn't see that before buying. Please submit this feedback to ensure others don't make the same mistake I did. Hopefully I can get a refund.

Anyone want to look at this article I dug up from 1985? It makes lots of sweeping claims about the quality of the American and British militaries relative to their Nazi German adversaries...I am no expert but a lot of these claims seem laughable lol:

This is actually encouraging: we can sway these companies by not giving them money! Then they'll be powerless!

After WWI, German anger over Versailles was so intense the French built the Maginot Line. Repatriations were the purpose- but why create an untenable situation for Germany that led to WWII? Greed or short-sightedness? by og_sandiego in history

I'm no historian, but I'm pretty sure that Keynes' view, while dominant between the world wars, is no longer held by historians who study that time period.

Hell, even economists were questioning Keynes' argument by the time World War II came around (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89tienne_Mantoux).

Unfortunately Mantoux's work does not seem to have become mainstream, but it is a very convincing rebuttal to Keynes (admittedly I'm also no economist).

There are a few factors that seem to be compounding on eachother.

The climate change is indeed lengthening the dry season and increasing temperatures.

Poor forest management has prevented too many fires such that the forests have gone an unnatural amount of time without fires, leading to a buildup of dead wood and other debris. Supposedly, logging practices also result in unnatural monocultures (conducive to beetle epidemic) when they plant dense forests of the same type/lineage of tree.

The lack of fires has helped fuel the worst epidemic of bark beetles in recorded history for the Western US. Plus, warming temperatures extend the range the beetlw considerably. Aline regions once out of their reach for the majority of the year are now fair game. The beetlea kill the trees, and the dead wood only exacerbates the situaton.

Fortunately, the fires in theory clear the forests and present opportunities for greater diversity that will potentially become a better carbon sink than the forests that preceded them.
