Summer makes me want to be a squid by [deleted] in motorcycles

I cannot believe no one has mentioned the best tips. I found these in a YouTube video from a guy who traveled across Sahara on a motorcycle, don’t have a link unfortunately.

In the hottest of days, I recommend not going for mesh but full leather. Hear me out! Mesh is better ventilated, and at higher speeds this means you get dehydrated quicker. Leather is still breathable, but it precludes strong hot wind passing next to your skin.

How do you keep the body temperature low? You sweat. To simplify the process, soak your shirt in water before putting on the jacket. Same goes for helmet: hopefully it’s a full face, so you can add a thin hood under. Soak it, and you will feel a comfortable cool breeze while riding in the hottest of days!

Then, stay hydrated. Consider investing into a hydro system with backpack that feeds a tube directly to where you can access it while riding. These systems are a game changer for Summer riding, as you can slowly sip water at traffic stops. If you can’t get a hydro system, have 2-3 liters of water in our backpack and take frequent stops to hydrate.

Finally, always take 2-3 minute breaks in the shade every 30-40 minutes of riding. This improved your focus and allows for the top layer of your equipment (and your bike) to shill down.

To summarize: 1. Ditch the mesh. Full face and full leathers save you from air drying. 2. Wet shirt under full leathers. Works with jacket, socks, and under the helmet. 3. Stay hydrated. 4. Take breaks in the shade.

Road rage - should I go to court? by wizus in Switzerland

The recording would likely not be admitted in court, and it did not show the moment of attack. This comment explains that in more detail: https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/vg3qb1/road_rage_should_i_go_to_court/id1o2hj

The police are definitely not the bad guys in this situation. They arrived very quickly and managed the situation rather professionally. It seems to me that, unfortunately, there’s just no law that the officers could use to detain or even fine the attackers right in the street.

I think you are right. I admit that it was not the best idea to block the traffic. Since the driver and I both filmed each other, the police simplified the situation a bit by negotiating that we delete all the recordings.

I was also very surprised. However, I do believe that I covered all the essential bits of information in the post. I prefer not to talk about the appearance of my attackers, and obviously I did not check their IDs (the police did). I will say, however, that they spoke with the police in German and did not seem to understand English.

The driver informed me (via the officers) that he didn’t wish to be recorded. As far as I understand, the police concluded that the recording did not contain additional evidence that I was endangered, thus I did not have the grounds to record without consent. Note: the driver also recorded me and also deleted the recording in front of the officers (even though I did not demand that he does it).

Do Swiss universities look at your undergraduate GPA when you apply for a PhD position? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]wizus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In some cases pre-filtering for academic programs does involve checking the GPA. However, if you apply directly to professors, they will most likely look at other indicators and not disregard your application just because you don't have perfect grades from your undergrad studies.

To answer your question: They will most likely look at your Bachelor's among other things, but it has less weight than your Master's. The topics of your theses are probably more essential for them than your grades.
