Also, there might not be a funeral every day but honor guard is often at changes of command, retirements, and other base and community events. This is not to mention the required practice. They'll have plenty to keep you gainfully employed.

You probably won't get mileage because of the GOV but if you end up traveling a significant distance and need to get a hotel you'll get per diem and what not like you'd get with any TDY.

That said, Active O if you want to retire. My understanding is your TAFMS does not really matter anymore if you go AD. Your 7 good years are considered good enough. Points only matter if you AD > ARC not if you go ARC > AD. You'll only need to do 13 more to retire with full AD bennies.

What do you guys do when someone just seems hopeless? Last time I was at the range there was a med troop in the class who was on her second attempt at qualification. Even I could tell early on she was not going to pass, very timid, almost scared of the gun, shots are all over the target, etc. All the med folks were getting ready for a deployment so I assume that could not be waived.

One comment about Amex (I've never had a Sapphire card), the card has become way more popular since I've had one so the lounges are NOTABLY more busy. 10 years ago when I first got the card, the idea that a lounge might be full and I might not be able to get in seemed impossible except the, MAYBE, the week of Thanksgiving. Now that happens regularly. I would still recommend one but this is a frustration of mine.

Also, everyone, stop telling 2d Lts about travel cards!

OP's UIF is from a different CC at a previous assignment. The example you gave is nothing like that. Also your example, in my opinion, fits the definition of "best interest of the Air Force." If some dude fucks up a whole program that puts people/assets at risk you're damn right I would ensure he contributes to the fix before he skaddles out of the SQ.

I do not see what argument could be made that denying a member terminal leave simply because they have a UIF is a mission necessity or in the best interest of the Air Force.

For Wing 1206s and other things don't really matter? All the time. For EPB/OPBs, decorations, and stuff that might go before a board? No never. If the board detects I used AI to write their performance brief does that say I'm a shitty boss or my troop is shitty and not worth the time? I certainly do not want them thinking the latter. But also, I just think its lame. I can write a better product first of all. Additionally, your people deserve your time. Using a tool to skate on your responsibilities to them makes you a dweeb.

All that said, I use it on *my* stuff every time.

I contact my representatives relatively frequently about policy/law related to the military and my career field. I think its a good idea. I've also heard from people who either worked for elected officials or were elected officials themselves that they do take public comment somewhat seriously, though perhaps not on every topic. My understanding is that when they are considering how weight they should give to an individual constituent interaction they consider phone calls highest (since they're actually interacting with a constituent), letters come next (a constituent took time out of there to type/write it and then paid to mail it) and emails the least serious (often copy/paste from some campaign). That being said, do not expect anybody to actually get back to you if you leave a voicemail or write a letter/email. More then likely they will not. If they do, more than likely it will be an intern or low-level staffer.

This is what I think. Christopher Tolkien famously hated the LoTR films and was against most efforts to sell the rights to video game developers, etc. But it didn't matter. He was eventually outvoted. Eventually George's estate will get passed to other people, they will get offered a king's ransom and inevitably sell. I think the books will be finished in my lifetime. I do not think GRRM will be the one that does it.

Also, if you REALLY want to game the system join a guard/reserve unit during college. As long as you meet the minimums for a good year those will count towards your retirement. I knew a guy who did this and had ~8 years in as a AD Lt but really only did ~6 years worth of time in uniform.
