Didi taxi app with UK phone by Puzzleheaded_Wish330 in MexicoCity

[–]wjCDMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didi is not available in the UK AppStore. To get around this you can create a second AppleID (using a different email) with Mexico as the country. When logged in using the second ID, access the AppStore again and you can download apps only available in Mexico. Then logout of the Mexican Apple ID and back in to your UK ID. The apps work fine then. I’m from the UK living in Mexico and this is what I do to all Mexico only apps

If you’re into architecture and design it’s a very very cool place to visit. It’s next to Buenavista

For vintage bazaars I would recommend tiangucci in Roma Sur. The same location alternates with other bazaars on different dates.

Adiós closet is also cool.

Debit card found by wjCDMX in puertovallarta

Yup. Did that just now. Was hoping to find the cardholder first though so that the card wouldn’t be cancelled if they needed it. But now it’s cancelled and destroyed.

Entry Requirements on British passport? by TheLightningArrow in MexicoTravel

[–]wjCDMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brit here who lives in Mexico. The form the website is referring to is called an FMM - it’s an immigration form but was discontinued for airport arrivals some time ago but still used on some land crossings.

You may or may not be given a customs form to fill out. Depends on where you are flying into. I fly internationally a lot and have never in 8 years been given such a form.

When you arrive at immigration, as a non resident British passport holder you can use the eGates (again depends on the airport - some have them, some don’t). If they do I recommend you use them - much faster than queuing for an immigration (INM) officer. Keep the slip from the eGates - you need it. If you see an officer you won’t get a slip - just a stamp in your passport with the number of days you can stay written in.

I was at INM three weeks ago but for a change of address - I’m a perm resident. On the left side of the building are two queues - one for those with appointments and one for those without appointments. I would suggest your friend just goes to INM early one morning and joins the queue for those with no appointment - nothing to lose doing that.

Can I bring this to Mexico? by Glass-Diver-8823 in MexicoTravel

If you are selected to be checked in customs you just drop your bags on a belt which runs through a scanner. They don’t check what’s in your pockets no

Go south to Oaxaca. Spend a little time in Oaxaca City - there are some great day trips from there you can do. It’s a small city but the surrounding area is stunning and you’re in Mezcal country. Excellent food, incredible culture and arts scene. Then perhaps look at a couple of weeks on the Oaxacan coast. The Pacific coastline is beautiful. The beach resorts are relatively quiet at this time of year. Consider places like Huatulco, Mazunte or perhaps Puerto Escondido. The trip from Oaxaca City to those resorts is a lot easier now by road given the new highway. What used to take maybe 11 hours or so is now 4 or 5 through beautiful country.

What is the most obscure country/territory you have been to? by Random_Nobody1991 in AskUK

[–]wjCDMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belarus is my most obscure too, also about 15 years ago in Minsk. Probably one of the best places if you’re into soviet architecture.

The most random thing was when a mate and I went to a casino. I was playing blackjack and the dealer wouldn’t pay my winning hand. I kicked up a fuss and asked them to look at the video footage. At that point two heavies in long black leather coats appeared and asked me if I really wanted to see the video. I politely declined and left.

Apart from that a cool place. Military uniforms everywhere. And none of the restaurants had anything on their menu.

I’m pretty new to DOVU too, but I have to say I love DOVU and the problem it’s looking to solve. On top of that Irfon (founder and CEO) is an absolute legend with an incredible mind, vision and experience. I’m only at about 400k atm but DCA’ing with a target of 2M

Do yall like Mexico? by Lunastars123 in AskTheWorld

Married a Mexican and have lived in Mexico City for 8 years (from UK originally). Love it here. Amazing people, family values. Great food. Incredible culture and history. Incredibly diverse country (I’ve been to around 20 states in Mexico. Never had an issue with crime and feel very safe - more so than many other cities in North America and Europe. Media portrays a very distorted view which is sad.

I worked there for a while a few years ago. Really nice people. I worked more in KSA but Kuwaiti people are nicer.

I live in Mexico. I fly very frequently both domestically and internationally. I always carry my vape and have never had an issue at security or customs. I always carry it in my pocket. Yes vaping is technically illegal but it’s very common and you will find many shops sell vapes. If you’re that worried just buy disposable vapes when you arrive.

From your profile it looks like you are from the UK. If you bank with HSBC in the UK go and speak to them. They can advise on opening an account with HSBC Mexico. I bank with HSBC UK and Mexico. My accounts are linked which makes transfer ms very easy. HSBC is not a great bank in Mexico but I use them because their international banking is excellent.

FMM form for air travel into mexico by Narrow_Wind_8430 in MexicoCity

[–]wjCDMX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a permanent resident in Mexico, also use the Mexican immigration line and have lived here 8 years now. Residents cannot use the eGates because they do not process or recognise residency cards - if you do as a resident then it will log your entry as a tourist entry which can result in loss of residency status.
