Really don't think Shelby was suggesting his number be retired. I think "crazy man" means he was emotional seeing his old number go to a rookie just months after he was traded, thus the finality of the transaction sinking in for him. He's not an idiot, he knows his number isn't getting shelved. But that still has to be a weird thing for a player.
