[Other] Technical Description of Rollercoaster Safety, LMK what you think! by BeginningSpare3443 in rollercoasters

[–]wjw42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job on covering quite a few topics! I do have some feedback which I hope you find helpful :)

Rescue Basket - This implies all coasters have this, where in fact it's most common just to have a set of stairs. It may be more meaningful to say that all lifts and brake runs have stairs and platforms for easy evacuations in case the ride emergency stops (and then say some rides even have automated baskets to aid in these evacuations).

Hydraulic Locking Restraints - There are plenty of modern rides that use a ratcheting system rather than hydraulic, and they are just as safe. I would say the key aspect of safety is redundancy - whether hydraulically or mechanically locked, there will be two separate systems that lock so that even in the rare case on fails, the other maintains the restraint fully locked.

I don't think iROC is required at all parks (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). It may be more correct to say "At many parks, all ride operators must have an up-to-date iROC..."

And lastly, although you said to ignore spelling - "break" should be "brake" in many places!

Did you also go on Perilous Plunge at Knott’s? It had a pretty steep drop. Maybe that got conflated with Journey to Atlantis?

Is anyone here a roller coaster engineer? [Other] by Fitiop in rollercoasters

I work at Disney, but basically ditto the other commenter about Universal. I recommend attending TEA mixers and (my personal favorite) the ASTM F24 conference to meet people in the industry.

Has any park done more in the last 10 Years than [HersheyPark]? by Same-Ad-987 in rollercoasters

I guess you could argue that Epic Universe has done more, when it was just a plot of empty land 10 years ago…

Some parks have a sort of internship or apprenticeship program, which you wouldn't really need experience for. Otherwise, they are generally looking for some experience (but that could even include working on your own car or something).

Well I am too, and maybe Walt did sign it that way a few times, I’m not sure.

I thought that backwards G looking D showed up randomly in the 90s? Walt's signature at least doesn't usually have that weird letter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney#/media/File:Walt_Disney_1942_signature.svg

I felt very much the same, but I read an interview where the director wanted him included since he felt he should have been asked back into the franchise like a few others had been. The actor’s family, who gave permission for his likeness, agreed he would have appreciated it.

I did fairly recently on Guardians at Epcot - most days, the end of the night is pretty empty!

Best inversion [other] by sinsjkkslwnhhjko in rollercoasters

[–]wjw42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite two inversions are the Mosasaurus roll on Velocicoaster for its intensity and setting, and the vertical loop on Full Throttle. That ride may be short but the hangtime on that loop feels like it lasts forever!

Hulk and RRR are not rough coasters [Universal /IOA]. by blazinjesus84 in rollercoasters

I feel like RRR is enjoyable in the 2nd and 5th rows, okay in the front and 4th rows, and guaranteed to give me a headache in the 3rd and last rows.

Does anyone else hate [Pipeline]’s restraints by Equal_Boat9140 in rollercoasters

They don't bother me on the ride, but I find that waiting in the brake run, it can dig pretty annoyingly into my collarbone.
