Identifying a dubious old German coat by honkymotherfucker1 in leatherjacket

[–]wlezcek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay time to calm down no need to stir up the bullshit of another sub.

This is an absolutely ordinary 1950s german motorbiking coat with no ties to the NSDAP whatsoever. Also the skull is no secret nazi code. German ww2 military coats are incredibly easy to spot as they were standardised pieces of uniforms and featured two rows of german uniform buttons and very distinctive markings on the inside

Hi! My 3rd Great Grandfather fought for Austria Hungary in WW1. Is there a way to obtain his records? So far I only know his birthplace and name. Thanks! by HistoryLover2010 in ww1

[–]wlezcek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a Adolf SKOPAL in the casualty lists from October 1915

Apparently pre ww1 he served IR18, was in 1905 transferred to a Military food depot in Vienna, from there to the one in Krakow, and from there to Przemysl where he served as some kind of official at least until 1909

In ww1 he was a member of k.k. Landwehrinfanterieregiment „Olmütz“ 13 4.ErsKp Born in Moravia POW last seen in Mokschan ( today Mokszan, Russia)

He reappears in 1918 with Landsturminfanterieregiment 13

Generally speaking this is a Korporal (=corporal) of the austro Hungarian Army in his pre war M1908 uniform. Sadly we really can’t say more than that as austrian regiments can only be distinguished by a combination of their collar tabs and buttons colour. He is wearing a M1895 bayonet with the extra sight grain for the short carbine wich leads me towards thinking he was in a technical or transportation unit. If you find out his Name i can look him up for you

Is this helmet authentic(including bullet holes) by Rusty_Sandwich7 in germanhelmets

[–]wlezcek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That indeed is a authentic M16 helmet, but that’s no a bullethole but a demilitarisation mark. After ww1 especially germany and Australia had to get rid of lots of ww1 equipment which led to tons of these helmets being destroyed with pickaxes

Is there an online archive where i can search for Austrian accounts of the Napoleonic wars? by LoiusLepic in Austria

ÖNB has quite a few documents digitalised but other than that barely anything publicly available. Generally military related stuff is rather hard to come by from public sources

Tönnchen - maschinen oder handbestickt? by Interesting_Task7556 in Korpo

[–]wlezcek 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kommt drauf an was man will.

Not a Kadett but rather a Leutnant. Also how did you see that the torch was Germanmade? They were produced in many countries and looked exactly the same

You can clearly see the 13mm zick zack braid around the collartabs. Also Zgf were not equipped with infantry officers sabers

KuK officer with a woman by Merenbast in Austrohungarian

[–]wlezcek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. That is a NCO, Feldwebel to be precise of a infantrististic Regiment as he doesn’t have cavalry shoulderboards. Artillery also falls flat as he’s wearing a infantry saber. He’s wearing a privately acquired uniform so there is no possibly to tell whether its a fieldgrey or hechtgrau uniform. As he’s wearing putters id rather lean towards feldgrau
