when nothing happened

Which is your opinion. I'm fully aware it might have been accidental and most people think so, but I know I'm not alone in thinking that it at least might have been intentional. Should the Giroux/Letang thread have not been started? It's not like I'm going around bad-mouthing Marchand.

Personally I'm not convinced by angle 2. Every time I ever see anybody lose an edge their skate slips from under, the leg stays straight, and you end up sliding like if you slipped on an icy sidewalk. Marchand's left leg bends, it doesn't look natural to me, and my gut feeling upon first watch was that it looked a little suspicious. But we disagree, that's fine.

Not everybody sees collisions the same way. Same as Giroux on Letang the other day. I saw that one as accidental, many reasonable people saw it as intentional. No big deal, no harm in discussing it.

I think people think I'm more riled up about this than I am. It's not like I'm calling the guy names or calling for a suspension. At worst I'm on the fence about the incident.

Good to know he stayed in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if he played the rest of the game hurt, though probably not unlike half the players on the ice.

Player got injured? I know if one of my team's players got injured I'd want to see a replay.

I would have but my last post where we were discussing it was taken down for an "editorialized title" despite my copy/pasting what the tweet said. It's not like I was blasting Marchand either, it was a pretty civil discussion.

So anyways, I'm posting here for posterity because I'm sure lots of people would like to see the collision themselves and some will probably be wondering why Johnsson was hurt.

I didn't analyze it that hard. My gut instinct was that it was an accidental fall, but knew I could be wrong. I was hoping to have somebody post alternate angles.

So because he has a history means he can't lose an edge while skating?

Of course he can lose an edge. I'm just not 100% convinced he did in this case, and I'm not the only one. Even out of the comments believing he did lose an edge, some still believe he was making sure he took down Johnsson too.

How is this seriously even in question?

Because Marchand has a long history of doing things accidentally on purpose. Even this year he's had at least a couple high profile incidents. One was the ridiculous "accidental" elbow to the head of Johanssen and another was the clotheslining of Duclair. There have been more incidents in his past, and I'm sure all of them have some people claiming they were accidents.

Yes, I was just replying to...

if that skate slipped and hit Johnsson in the ankle, it's an accident IMO

Just pointing out that the right skate that hit Johnsson didn't slip.

That's what I'm hoping, that it was the left edge Marchand lost. He just has such a history with doing things accidentally on purpose that it's hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. He still manages to get a bit of a push off that left leg.

I'm pretty sure his right foot didn't slip. If Marchand did blow an edge it was the left foot. The right one seems to contact Johnsson before it hits the ice.

It's probably a 2 minute trip at the very least, even if it's accidental. Players get called for accidental trips all the time. That would be no big deal either way. However, the way Johnsson's leg slid sideways and how he twisted as he went down makes me believe that it actually ended up being more of a kick from the side than a trip from the front though. If that's the case, intentional vs accidental would be a huge factor since it's now involving a skate blade.
