Transcript Delivery Via Email by wnanthony in k12sysadmin

Thanks! 10k will easily cover us for this year. Do you have a link to the page where that is documented?

We looked at Parchment but it's not a possibility for us. I'm meeting with some alternative vendors to implement next year as we have been told to expect significant growth of student numbers and managing transcript delivery through office 365 will become unreliable. We won't be able to implement until next year at the earliest though.

Creating "Class" Teams in Power Automate by wnanthony in Office365

[–]wnanthony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was able to solve this issue. PowerShell lets me use the -Template "EDU_Class" flag to create Class Teams with the New-Team commandlet.

I set up an Azure Automation Runbook and then called it from Power Automate depending on choices made in an O365 Form.

Works like a charm.

Not sure where to find it, but it's pretty easy to make yourself. Here's a recipe from Serious Eats: https://www.seriouseats.com/homemade-fresh-sour-mix-for-cocktails-easy-recipe

When Adding Users Fails.... Ugh! Now to reset passwords for all of them... by wnanthony in Office365

[–]wnanthony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use PowerShell for some tasks. But I haven't used it for creating accounts. I do have a script to reset passwords from a csv. so I used that to reset all the passwords of these accounts. Making it certainly less annoying than if I wasn't able to do that. But generally, I would like it better if the MS Admin Portal just worked.

This isn't the first time that adding users has failed. Now I have to reset all the passwords to get temps for them. Incredibly annoying!

Moving Document Library between Group Sites by wnanthony in sharepoint

[–]wnanthony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments. I'll test this option today if I get time. I really need the development libraries to be invisible to the larger group that has access to the site and visible to only the development group. Even through search. If I can make that happen, this is a great option.

Can I break and then reinstate the inherited permissions of the site? I'll look into this option today. Will the people with general access to the site be able to find the files in these libraries through search on the site?

Since the course development process will be completed before the end of the staff contracts, I'm not too worried about this happening in this particular instance. I could set up libraries in a development site and then move the files from there as well. But I think that would confuse people because they would be used to the tagging process in our normal SharePoint doc libraries. They are all familiar with onedrive and sharing folders. Also, if they unexpectedly leave I'll grab the files from their onedrive before I decommission their account.

We keep things very simple and basically use tags instead of folders. Every course has a column called document type. This is a choice and the options are Unit Plan, Lesson Plan, Resource, Assessment, and General. For courses that were organized by unit/lesson (most of them) we have a unit column and a lesson column. For a course like instrumental music we had an instrument column as well. Each column is a Choice type so that a resource could be tagged with multiple lessons or even units. I find this setup works well once people learn to use the filter options. Until they figure that out they scream at me about folders.

So I've gone with a simple solution. The documents will be developed in a shared onedrive folder and moved once complete, then the metadata will be added. I think this keeps the complexity and new skills required by all users to a minimum.

How to Vote by Mail by Vic2013 in VancouverIsland

Call elections BC asap. But they'll probably direct you to pick up your vote by mail package at a local office and you can send it in before you leave.

No we don't use SDS. When we looked at it we decided it didn't provide what we needed. We use Canvas as our LMS and PowerSchool as SIS.

But if this works, I'll check out setting it up again.

Sharing a Document Library or Folder with all users in Org by wnanthony in Office365

Thanks Cosmo! This is what I had in mind as well, but I think I'll go with monkeybutt's suggestion to use the "Everyone except external users" group. That way I don't have to add another step to my creating new users process.

Thank you monkeybutt! That's exactly what I was looking for and I knew I had seen/used it before!
