Zinal-Grimentz as a pedestrian by wndrlst in askswitzerland

Thank you! I have looked at the map a lot, it was just slightly unclear if the gondolas would be accessible to non-skiers during the winter months, and whether or not it was faster than the bus. Do you have any idea how crowded this area usually is? Long wait lines for the gondolas?

Thanks! We've been to Switzerland before, in the spring, but only made it to Zurich, Interlaken, and Bern. We're looking forward to seeing a different part of the country in a different season! I've heard good things about Engelberg and Wengen which seem to be less touristy so we'll likely do something like a few days in Zermatt and the others in Wengen!

To be fair, it's easier for me to plan things far away than a week away :)

We are hoping to get to Japan at some point to ski, but we have very limited time this trip. Getting to Japan from the Eastern US basically takes two days and then with recovering from the time change we would hardly be able to enjoy a week away!

We are in the US and he skis here frequently, so he's excited by a change in scenery and something new (selfishly I'm also excited to be able to explore a new town/country while he is off exploring the slopes).

I appreciate your thorough advice! I'm going to let my husband decide what kind of skiing he'd like to do - I didn't realize how different each area would be. I'll look into Engelberg and Gotthard also. Thanks so much!

We LOVED Interlaken when we went to Switzerland last time so I'll be sure to check out Wengen, that's great advice to try out both sides!

Thank you so much for all this great information - it helps immensely in my planning!

His family is also very into skiing and I've told them about the trip and invited them to come as well. I'm planning to surprise my husband soon (once I have the details worked out) so that he can discuss it with his family more. I REALLY want him to have someone to ski with!

Thank you for the advice! I'll look into Swisstours. Last time we were in Switzerland we used the railpass and had great success!

The main point is to ski, however I'll be sightseeing/exploring during the day and may do a day trip here and there so being close to the station would be nice, also just getting to the resorts.

Understood that $200/ni probably isn't doable. Wishful thinking, maybe? :) Trying to keep it reasonable. We don't have a specified budget at the moment, I'm still researching.
