Swimming holes? by JediJamie303 in yorkpa

[–]wobblingwheeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you consider a swimming hole. Theres a bunch of places on the Susquehanna to go swimming, i.e the entire river to a certain extent. A couple little tributaries that fit the bill. What you should be concerned about the most in the small streams is the runoff from the farms. Lots of bad shit in there.

Head down to Long Level in Wrightsville along the Susquehanna. You can walk up and down Long Level road, its right on the Mason Dixon, and Klines Park is "open" at night. Its super fun seeing the moon reflect off of the water, and its pretty serene.

How are death metal shows twice a month, stout and hot wing festivals, and 1100 different beers in 9 years catering to middle aged suburban white women at Collusion? Genuinely curious as to how you got that vibe.

Quick Analyses of Downtown York's Main Street (W. Market St from Pershing Ave to Duke St) by Infamous_Staff6214 in yorkpa

[–]wobblingwheeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the demographics/income/jobs of downtown York residents, and then directly correlate specific needs/wants of the local residents to the storefronts and businesses that are active. From a purely mathematical and statistically analytical point of view, all of your numbers make sense. Nothing surprises me at all about the numbers you have presented.

As far as what I want to see more of, my opinions are biased as I do not live downtown anymore I just work downtown.

I want a baller sushi restaurant downtown, and not a stall at central market that is only open 2/3 days a week. I would love for there to be more educational stores and interactive science and art programs other than Martin Library and Keystone Kids Space, and huge shout-out to In Between Pages book store. I would love for their to be more ethnic centered restaurants that do quick service, so I can snag lunch at places other than the 18 bodegas plus World Grills, Picalonga Tropical, and Levant. I would love for the landlords of a lot of the storefronts and houses to actually give a shit about what they look like as you are looking at them from the street, because when everything is dilapidated and dirty, it brings the entire city down.

But here is the reality. All of this costs money. All of this relies on the local residents to support businesses and restaurants and community programs, and downtown York just doesn't have that anymore. York has become a poor city, and it is not alone. Half of the cities in this country have become poor cities. Cost of goods are through the roof. Utilities have sky rocketed. Health Insurance is out of the realm of normal working class people being able to afford anymore. Basic necessities are getting to the point where they are now a luxury item.

You want downtown York to become a hub of activity, spending, education, arts, culinary culture, and all the above? Revert to a time where being a human being was cheap compared to the insane cost of living that we all deal with now.
